So after reading some gut-wrenching anti-Israel leftism, I was thinking about the real motive that the US would have to fund both sides of the Israeli-Arab conflict and what motives the Arabs really have to destroy Israel.
Then it occurred to me.. has our foreign policy gotten to the point where, for some reason or another, we want the conflict to go on without end for a long time? Billions in foreign aid to both sides, open relationships with Bush visiting both sides, huge trade with both sides in terms of oil for the Arab nations and tech/military intelligence etc. from the Israeli side. Maybe there's some reason the US wants this fight to go on? Paul always talked about how our foreign aid to Israel keeps them on a leash, and prevents them from working out their own peace accords. The Christian Right in the US, one of the influences that any Paul supporter would have to concede is responsible for corrupting the Republican party, is far more against a two-state solution than all but the most religious Israelis. Chances are that the US does more to hamper peace efforts than help.
