Iowa vote breakdown: Age and income

What I found disturbing about these numbers were that 74% of those who showed up were 40 and over. Only 25% were under 40!

No wonder Romney won. 3/4 of those who showed up were in his best age demographics. Only 1/4 of those who showed up were in Ron's best age demographics. Santorum voters were distributed through all of the age groups, so it didn't matter so much to him what the ages of the voters were.

Also, I crunched the numbers by multiplying the total votes in the caucus by the % of each age group to find out how many voters were in each group. Then I took the percentages Ron Paul had in each group and multiplied it by the number of voters in that group to get the approximate number of votes he received from each age group.

I found out that he received almost half of his votes from those age 40 and older. And out of his 26,000 votes, almost 10,000 were from those who were 50 and older.

So, I'm not sure what to think. Do younger people really show up in such small numbers, or are they just really outnumbered in Iowa?

Also, though it's necessary to appeal to people from all age demographics, you also have to get younger people to actually vote.

The thing I took away from this was more of the income bracket. This could have something to do with age a bit, but it appears the less more you make/have the more you vote for Paul. This is a good sign considering the state of the economy and the fact that it's just going to get worse.

Can someone tell me where this came from? Was it from CNN? I want to use it for an article.

Paul got 14% with Republicans, that's as low as Gingrich got. With Independents Paul got 43%.

Santorum got 29% with Republicans and Romney got 27% with them.

Ron Paul lost Iowa because not enough Republicans liked him. How do we fix that?

Paul got a higher percentage of votes in Eastern Iowa close to Illinois than in Western Iowa close to Nebraska. Does anyone who knows Iowa personally know why that would be?

I guess as a 30+ wealthy woman, I am quite the anomaly.

According to this, the reason why more young people didn't show up to the caucuses must be that they cannot afford the gas money. Seriously, though, I find the income disparity in candidate choice incredible. I would love to see the same data standardized for age variation.
