DATA
Hello from sunny California,

The Ron Paul Los Angeles Meetup has purchased a list of 700,000 Iowa mailing addresses and is organizing a national letter writing campaign. This effort will mean personal, hand-written letters from Ron Paul supporters nationwide delivered to undecided voters in Iowa, where the presidential nominees will be selected JANUARY 3rd. We feel that the personal nature of this effort will appeal to the people of Iowa, and set us apart from the form letters they all get from the 'other' campaigns.

This is a massive undertaking and we need everyone's help. With support from the meetups, we can cover all 700,000 names on the list before January 3rd which will have a huge effect on the nomination.

Please respond with a standard email address and be sure to list which meetup (Including group number and state) you organize ASAP and I will reply immediately with the names we need you to cover. WE CAN WIN IOWA.

rEVOLution!

SUBJECT MATTER
The idea is to tell them what it is about Ron Paul that got you interested, and why you think he's the right, the ONLY, man for the job!
Here's an article about issues that are important to Iowans! Link to article

Among Republican caucus-goers, terrorism is the most important issue at 21.9 percent. The economy is second at 15.8 percent, followed by the Iraq war (15.5 percent), and immigration (13.7 percent). Rounding out the remaining issues are health care (9.7 percent), abortion (7.2 percent), education (4.0 percent), energy policy (2.9 percent), gay marriage (2.9 percent), agricultural policy (1.4 percent), and the environment (1.1 percent), while 2.2 percent responded "don't know" and 1.8 percent responded "other."

"Republicans are also responding to the messages of their candidates," said Redlawsk. "Where Democrats focus on Iraq, Republicans talk about terrorism and security; the result is that voters also focus on that issue."

SAMPLE LETTERS
Here are 2 sample letters to get you started! Be sure to personalize it and direct them to the official campaign!
Dear ________,

My name is ________ ________ and I live in Los Angeles, CA. A few months ago, I learned about Dr. Ron Paul and what he stands for. He is the first candidate that I've ever felt I could vote for because I believed in him.

Dr. Paul is a 10-term Republican congressman who is the most honest, and has the most consistent point of view and voting record of any elected official, ever. If you go back to interviews in 1988 he had the same opinions as he does today. He does not say what he thinks you want to hear, or pander to special interest groups. He says what he believes in - that the Constitution is the highest form of Law, and each measure should judged on whether or not it upholds the Constitution. He voted against the Iraq war resolution, against the patriot act, and against every tax hike that has ever come up.

Dr. Paul is the only candidate running for President who has signed the American Freedom Pledge - this pledge states that if elected President, the signer will renounce actions that violate our civil liberties, such as torture, domestic spying, detainment of US citizens as enemy combatants, etc. He is the only candidate who wishes to restore the Constitution’s checks and balances to the Presidency.

He is truly a modern day Thomas Jefferson. Please consider voting for Dr. Paul at your Republican caucus on January 3, 2008. I know you are registered "no party." You can register Republican on caucus night to vote for him. You can find out more about him by visiting his website at: www.RonPaul2008.com

Very truly yours,
________ ________

Dear ________,
My name is _____ _________. I am a lawyer in Los Angeles. I have been
married for 25 years and have five children. I have never supported a
presidential candiate before. I have decided to back Dr. Ron Paul for
president, a 10-term Republican congressman and here's why:

(these points are important to Iowans, in particular. Feel free to make your own paragraph from them)

1. In Congress, Dr. Paul has never voted to raise taxes.
2. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
3. He has been married to the same woman for 50 years.
4. He served in the Military as a flight surgeon.
5. He is the ONLY candidate in either party who is a
Medical Doctor.
6. He strongly support of civil liberties.
7. He views that individuals should be self-RESPONSIBLE.
8. He is consistently named the "Taxpayer's Best Friend".
9. He is the only candidate who unfailingly supports the
constitution.

Please consider voting for Dr. Paul at your Republican caucus on January
3, 2008. I understand you are registered "no party." You can register Republican on caucus night to vote for him.

I would love to hear what you think of Dr. Paul. Please email me
your thoughts to: _______@_______._______.

Very truly yours,
_______ ___________

Wow, this is actually going to happen. :) Iowa has a population of 3 million, and only 5% of Iowa's population shows up to caucuses, so that's about 150,000 people. We could make a serious impact with this if an extra 550,000 show up that support Ron Paul. :p

I don't see this list on my meetup group. Does someone have the email of this person such that I can ask him for a list of people that my Durham, NC meetup group can write to.

Send it to your MeetUp organizer and have them contact the LA group to get the information.

It is best to send it to your meetup organizer - here is the email address for Bryce, I believe he has the list!!

Ok, I checked my local meetup's page and can't find anything about this. I want to pass it along to them, but I just want to make sure that I understand the job.

So we get a list of potential voters in Iowa. We write handwritten letters explaining why Ron is the best man for the job, and ask them to take a look at his campaign site etc. Is this right?

That is a good letter, I have sent off a dozen. Some people in Clinton Iowa will probably know of me by now.

Thanks for the feedback. I like the idea about putting a slim jim in with the letter. I'll get on this over the weekend.

Anything like this going on for SC?

You can also Chipin to help the Lincoln, NE Meetup pay for all the necessary materials and postage for the 2600 letters they are trying to comlete. They will not be able to do all of them though if they can't raise enough money to pay for everything. The Chipin widget is in the top left corner of RedStateEclectic.com.
