No, we were not. Trump is not coming to save us. Neither is anyone else.
Never were going to vote our way out of this.

Why shouldn't they feel invincible?
They know how to acquire and use power to get what they want.
That does indeed take "nerve".
That is why they have gotten as far as they have.
That is why they will go even further.
That is, in short, why they are winning.
By contrast, their opponents have (so far) been pretty spineless.
Even when those (so-called) "opponents" are in power, they often turn out just to be chickenshit appeasers.

But I'm supposed to sit around and argue how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
I think you're actually making Sowell's point. The Balkans are basically all white people who don't get along. Those same white people seem to do fine here in America. (I've not heard of any massive Serbian on Croat violence here in the good old U.S.A.) So the problem seems to be one of marginalization rather than one of diversity.
It has not been our diversity, but our ability to overcome the problems inherent in diversity, and to act together as Americans, that has been our strength.

Trump says one thing and does another sometimes
I'm going to count this leaked email as confirmation ... Trump administration halts ICE raids on farms, restaurants and hotelsWe were never going to get mass deportations, were we?
#TACOAccording to The New York Times, an email sent on Thursday by a senior ICE official orders all agents to stop enforcement on agriculture, restaurants and hotels.
The order is in line with comments President Donald Trump made Thursday on social media.
Trump acknowledged that the crackdown is taking good, longtime workers away from those industries, with the jobs being hard to replace.
But not to worry - as a consolation prize, the Republicans have half of "30 pieces of silver" on offer.
(I'm sure the Democrats are good for the other 15.)
Would you like some "Americans being priced out of the low end of the labor market" to go with your "massdeportationsimmigration"?
