The Balkans are basically all white people who don't get along. Those same white people seem to do fine here in America. (I've not heard of any massive Serbian on Croat violence here in the good old U.S.A.) So the problem seems to be one of marginalization rather than one of diversity.

I think you're actually making Sowell's point.

It has not been our diversity, but our ability to overcome the problems inherent in diversity, and to act together as Americans, that has been our strength.

I'll take it one step further and say that, historically, Americans have mostly responded to the same set of positive incentives and THAT is where we derive our strength. But as these incentives get distorted, the problems inherit in diversity become harder and harder to overcome.

Why? Because when each individual acts in his own self-interest to grow his own wealth by providing value to others (the American Dream), the surface-level differences don't matter as much. As Sowell has said before, racists may like their own race better than others, but they like themselves more than anyone else. BUT, when the Marxist thinking takes over, it becomes a battle over fixed resources - you grow wealth not by providing value, but by taking a larger share of the fixed pie from competitors. THOSE incentives encourage silly group dynamics and alliances to help capture a larger share.

Which is why it is so important to maintain the right incentives!!! Wherever these incentives get distorted, new dimensions of "diversity" will pop up as groups separate - whether it be by race, religion, geography, education... it doesn't matter. Group hostility will be exacerbated.

According to The New York Times, an email sent on Thursday by a senior ICE official orders all agents to stop enforcement on agriculture, restaurants and hotels.

The order is in line with comments President Donald Trump made Thursday on social media.

Yes employers should be held accountable for hiring illegals, but it is more complex than that when identify theft and fraudulent documents are commonplace. If an illegal uses fraudulent documents, the employer can just deny knowing they were illegal.
