Introduce yourself! Who, What, Where, Why!

Hello forum.

My name is William, I live in Alabama and I am running for a city council seat in my community. I have recently opened a blog to discuss my own concerns for America, and mainly criticisms for our Congressman, Robert Aderholt.

Welcome, William.

Hi!!!

Funny story, but when I was registering it asked me "Name one office Ron Paul ran for in 2008." I figured I'd insert sardonic tone into my answer, which was 'President...?'. So to any mods out there that may or may not see that I "didn't know Ron Paul was running for President," just wanted to clarify. :p OK, enough silliness.

It's hard to know how to introduce myself because this election is driving me crazy and I don't know what 'category' you'd want to place me in. I'm completely disgusted with our deficit, our growing government coupled with our shrinking freedoms, and above all else our despicable foreign policy. I watched this election with great interest from the beginning, but I'm sorry to say it took me until the Republican primary debates until I even knew about Ron Paul. You know those chills Chris Matthews gets up his leg when he listens to Barack Obama? That was me!

I guess I'm a semi-libertarian at heart, but I'd been following Obama for several years and I really liked his more common-sense approach to foreign policy. Back in 2004 when he made his speech for Kerry, I turned to my aghast neo-con parents and said "THIS guy needs to run for president."

Now I'd much rather have Dr. Paul do the hard thing, the right thing. I'd much rather this country stopped strangling itself in a thousand and one ways than elect either Obama or McCain. When you step back and look at just how much trouble this country is in, we can't afford not to elect Ron Paul, yesterday. Unfortunately, we're going to end up with President McCain or President Obama, and that's final.

I know, I know - if people would stop being defeatist, this two-sides-of-the-same-coin pattern would stop being a self-fulfilling prophecy. But in my view policy problems need to be fixed with policy solutions - my idea is that national elections should be handled somewhat like Louisiana elections. Wouldn't it be great if we got to choose from 10 or 20 people with convictions, instead of 2 corporate/party figureheads???? But I digress - that's a topic for another post, and I apologize for rambling.

In the meantime, this 90% libertarian and 500% Ron Paul supporter is leaning heavily in Obama's favor come November. Why? Because McCain's foreign policy is just as bad as Bush's. And because education will be much more affordable under Obama... basically I can't stand anything about McCain, and Obama looks quite a bit better.

But what I'd really like to do is find a way to actually change things, not just keep slapping band-aids on this great big cancer patient we call a country. This is making me crazy. What can we do? How can we get this country to the point where meaningful, substantial "change" is possible?!? Where real patriots can vote for the Ron Pauls and actually "hope" they'll be elected?

My idea, like I said, is that we need to find a way to revise the two-party system, perhaps eliminate parties altogether. Could something like that take off? Or are we going to need to have an all out armed revolution????

All right... I'm sorry for the outpouring! I'm feeling emotional about this, as always, because I really love the idea of America and I consider what's happening right now the biggest tragedy in human history. Well, there ya go - I think I can safely say I introduced myself. ;)

Obama is a commie, he won't solve anything
he will increase government
didn't he show support for Israel and threaten Iran?

why not Bob Barr???

welcome :)

Thanks for the welcome! =)

Personally I have some real problems with the Israel situation, but I'm all for Israel's right to exist and defend itself. And Iran's leader is a murderous antisemitic psychopath who denies the Holocaust and keeps saying that Israel will be destroyed, etc etc. I don't think there's anything wrong with showing support for Israel and threatening Iran, since Israelis are being targeted by Iranians for racist and fanatical reasons.

But I know where you're coming from - I'm assuming that part of your identification as a libertarian includes non-interventionism. It's an interesting debate, but it all eventually boils down to opinion, and in my humble opinion the global economy and the Internet has eliminated any chances we might have had to return to isolationism; and therefore, I believe we need to have a seat in the international scene. Not a Bush policy, not imperialism, not training people who turn on us... but involvement nonetheless.

But it's 4:05 a.m. and I am dying of sleep deprivation. Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to talking to you more in-depth soon!

Hello

I've only been a Paul supporter for about three months or so. I voted for Fred Thompson in the Texas primary and only after that did I even pay attention to Ron Paul. I went to the Ron Paul campaign website because I was bored one night. I watched all the videos, read every section, and then I read the Constitution for the first time in MANY years. Man, what a wake up call. I was so amazed that Ron Paul was the only candidate out there who actually stood up for the Constitution. My reading of the Constitution got me interested in American history again, so now I'm doing alot of reading along those lines, without the blinders our public (government) schools put on it. It's amazing how much was left out of our K-12 educations, and even our college educations. Anyway, I'm so passionate about all this stuff that I even started doing a once a week podcast where I comment on various news items and also delve into one or two deeper political issues. Even if nobody listens I at least am learning as I do research. Oh, and I'm 30 years old, married, and self employed. I'm not looking forward to voting for Bob Barr either, although that's what I'm gonna do. Voting for him will be my anti McCain vote. I'd much rather vote FOR someone than vote AGAINST someone. I wish Ron Paul was on the ballot.

Wow, is this thread being innundated with great, intelligent posts! Good to have y'all here!

Welcome newbies and thanks for sharing.

Research your state's laws on writing in a candidate on your ballot.

Some states throw the whole ticket out and no one gets your vote, others count it.

If you can write in your vote for Ron Paul, by all means do so and be assured that we are jealous of your ability to do so.

The rest of us have to decide what candidate we are comfortable with. Ron Paul said it best---some of his supporters will not vote at all, some will vote third party--it's your choice, do the research and do what you think is right.

Most of us will be voting one third party candidate or another, as a protest or because we really believe that the third party candidate is the best choice. The hope is that a big third party vote will cause a McCain defeat and the GOP will see what they have done--they have alienated a huge section of their base--the base of the future.

The big thing is to vote for as many liberty minded individuals for the US House and Senate as possible. Ron Paul needs help in the big house and we need to send him that help. This will also provide a check and balance against a very liberal president.

steps off soap box and again extends greetings and salutations to our new members!

Welcome rightwinghour! It's great hear about people waking up...this is much bigger than one election. I'll have to try and remember to check out your podcast.

You should sign up at http://www.campaignforliberty.com if you haven't already. It's the vehicle that will take this movement to the next level and will launch at the Rally for the Republic in St. Paul on 09/2/08.

Signed up several weeks ago! And you're right, it is much bigger than one election, and it is even bigger than Ron Paul. If Ron Paul passed away tomorrow, we would still have to fight for the cause of liberty.

Well, I never noticed this post before today, but I have been coming here for a few months. Only recently have I started to post a bit. When my life gives me slack at work/home, I like to chat with people of common views or not so common views to keep things interesting.

My name is Zeke and Ron Paul seriously cured my apathy. I have always steered away from politics, because of the inherent corruption that I didn't want to know about, i.e. I stuck my head in the sand, but not anymore. The awakening to all the truths in this world is almost unbearable, but I have always been a seeker of knowledge and find the clarity worth the stress.

In the past year, I got married and had my first son, which has a lot to do with my awakening as well. I feel a certain amount of responsibility to him to try and make this world a better place. I don't have a lot of time or money, but I managed to find time to create a non-profit website to promote alternative news and not commonly known information. I still wish there was more I could do. I'm currently working on building a test "youtube" like site that won't censor videos based on information. That's just in the early building process.

Also, I hope to run for city or county commissioner in two years once I have had a chance to visit the weekly meetings and learn about local government.

I've also been here a while, but don't remember posting here. I've been following Ron Paul for a year and a half now, and want to continue doing so by his freedom movement. I'm only 17, but I want to learn and do what I can to keep it alive.

I am Brad from Michigan. I'm not even old enough to vote, but I understand how important liberty is.

Hey guys,
First and foremost, great forum! Absolutely love it!
My name is Amal and even though I have no relationship with the United States in any shape or form, I'm an avid Ron Paul supporter and Libertarian at heart. I live in Sydney, Australia and have been following Dr. Paul for quite some time now. Ron Paul never was given any exposure here in our mainstream media or politics and unfortunately, our cable networks only cast Faux News, CNN and BBC.
Nevertheless, I'm still in for the rEVOLution!

Welcome to the forums, Amal! Don't let us scare ya off too quick.

I am aloysious and I was a member of the old Bill Maher board. Now a member of politicalgroove.com forums which has a few refugees from the old B.M. board.
It's mostly a pro-Obama forum now. Not very interesting. Hope I can get some stimulation here.
BTW, I am aloysious over there, too.
