Introduce yourself! Who, What, Where, Why!

Hello; I'm a former conservative who, over the last two years, has made the transition first to libertarianism and then to anarcho-austrianism. I use the same handle on every forum I join, so you might recognize me from elsewhere.

Hi, I'm Dan. I'm originally from Fairfax, Virginia but I go to college in Vermont. I'm a former neocon and Ron Paul antagonist until I really began studying the issues in January 2009. I'm a passionate Ron Paul supporter and staunch Constitutionalist. I run a blog covering Vermont and Virginia politics called "Right on Gallows."

Afternoon, folks. I was referred here by a friend who cherishes his anonymity, so I dont know who he is. I liked Ron Paul from the beginning in 2008, but I had been with Obama since March 2007. I ultimately did vote for Obama and I dont regret it at all. I am no longer a supporter of him. I wont vote for him again, if I even vote at all. I dont see the point in regretting it or blaming myself. I did it and thats that.

About me, I live in New Jersey. I am an agorist and always have been during my time in the libertarian bloc, which started back in August/September.

You might find it amazing that I used to be a die-hard Stalinist. An authoritarian socialist. Yep. And then over a few weeks, not even, I jumped clear across the ether to agorism. I still am not sure how and neither does anyone I know who knows Ive changed (a lot of my real life friends still think Im "the commie"). I had been a Democrat until around 2005, when I became interested in the Marxist complex. Part of it was influenced by my interest in my Russian ancestry and it just seemed right. I dont really remember much of how it all started. But over time, it evolved more into concretely socialism, then I switched to democratic socialism, then somewhere around 2008 or 2009, I developed my own support for authoritarian socialism/Stalinism. I did feel for a while that dictatorship was ideal and The Prince was my favorite political book.

I somehow got the reputation of being "the commie" among my various friends. I dont know how that even started because I dont think I ever said I was a communist. I was always a socialist and maybe just accepted the label. In any case, this all came crashing down over the summer. I had a good friend online who was into anarcho-capitalism in its variate forms and would often read and criticize his postings. One day I saw he listed Agorism as his political views. I investigated it and also simultaneously read an ebook written by Tarrin Lupo: How to Start a Black Market Business.

That ebook itself sowed the first seeds of the end. It inspired me to start my own business after 3 years of trying to find a job that fit me and never finding anything. Part of it was laziness and restrictiveness, but nothing really felt right. I was so inspired by that book and as I read more about agorism, I became more convinced that it would work. The thing that I think did it in the end was learning that corporations are created by the state, not fought by it. There are no corporations in a free market. That was enough for me to sign up and, to the disappointment of my girlfriend (also a Stalinist), become an "anarchist".

How I jumped seemingly that far I still havent figured out, but I feel in the right place and cant ever go back. I speculate that some of it was I always supported some libertarian ideas. I was always a civil libertarian (in most areas, unless you separate social and civil), somehow managing to argue for and against civil liberties in different situations. Remember I was a Stalinist. Those familiar with 1984 will recognize the term doublethink (holding two contradictory opinions at once). The other big thing was I always supported sound money since 2004 or 2005ish, when I learned about the Liberty Dollar. I had also always had the mind of a salesman, so the interest in entrepreneurship was there.

Other than that, I dont really know. I was in frequent contact with libbies thru my friend stated above and argued relentlessly against what I now defend.

And thats that I guess. *rides off into sunset*

What was it about Stalin you admired ?
I think his negative attributes were exaggerated in an anti-Soviet/anti-"communist" propaganda scheme to discredit the USSR and the concepts to the American people/the West. I also thought he did a lot of good for the USSR and the world, that far outweighed his negative attributes. He was also a glorious figure that I liked his style.

I still think the death toll is exaggerated (no one can even settle on a number from 5-100 million) and many of the deaths were irrelevant to him. But I dont really defend him anymore or really care either way. Its in the past.

Well, to throw my introduction out there (even though it appears this forum is long forgotten)...

My name is Chris Dixon and I am a 20 year old activist in Maine. I've been involved with politics since I was 17, more so heavily in the last couple years. I didn't discover Ron Paul until 2008 (until then, I was on the "he's crazy" bandwagon) when I picked up a copy of "The Revolution: A Manifesto" and read through it, it convinced me I had him all wrong. I've been a very strong supporter of him ever since. I've pointed a lot of people in his direction and often bring him up to people I know in my personal relationships and work ones.

In addition to this, I've been State Coordinator of the Maine Tenth Amendment Center for about a year now. At the first of the month, I joined a site called Maine Web News as a writer. I also run a group on Facebook called "Maine For Ron Paul 2012", dedicated to uniting Paul supporters here in Maine and focusing on the effort of getting him elected.

Off the topic of politics, I'm a die-hard baseball fan (Yankees fan in a Red Sox country, life is rough), big history buff, and am absolutely serious when I say I listen to ALL types of music (13,000+ tracks on my laptop don't lie). I'm also a devoted reader and have enough books to run my own library.

Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask. :)

Welcome to the forums Chris. Stop into chat sometime and we can discuss history and why you should not like the Yankees lol. Are you going to CPAC?

I thinking about closing this thread and allowing new members to create individual threads in here.

Wouldn't history affirm why I should like the Yankees? Something to the tune of 27 rings and 40 pennants? ;)

Sounds like a good idea, but I'm assuming there was a good reason it has been closed for some time...trolling?

I think history would affirm if your only intention of liking a team was because it is winning would be to like every world series winner, and thus, be completely perfect. :p

Hi Everyone! Vaughn here. I just moved to mid-Michigan last month. I campaigned a little bit for Paul back in 2007 - 2008, as much as I could as a student with little income. (my profile picture is from the Mackinac Conference - me and my sister never had so much fun). After hearing Ron's speech at CPAC and Rand's powerful speech against the "Patriot" act I felt like I had to get involved. Also, 2 years after campaigning for Paul I now have a programming job so i'm much more able to give (50 bucks already, waiting for the money bomb on Monday).

So in short, count me in.

Hi folks, thank you for letting me join this forum. I guess I am the odd one out here, since I am not an American, but based in the Republic of Ireland. Yes, Ron Paul is regarded as a guiding light by some people over here as well.
Let's hope he will make it to the White House in 2012.

Welcome from across the pond!

Hello Defenders of Liberty!!!!!! I joined here in 07/08 as ceresasmommy but I couldn't remember my password so I changed my name and my daughter's older now and she calls me mom. She's the reason I'm supporting Ron Paul and loving what his message is. So excited for the money bomb on Monday and am hoping that we blow away the set limit to raise and show Ron Paul how much we support him and need him to run. However, I will say that just like in 08, the GOP will ignore him, so I say since the GOP has lost their way - he needs to run under a new party - the real republican party. GO RON PAUL <3 <3 <3 <3

In Oct 2007, myself and another put $100.00 into Ron's bid for Watching him conduct the hearing on the Fed last week made me feel that was the best cnote i ever 'invested'!
As for the Irish supporter, Britian/commonwealth and America are the only 2 counties based upon the Common Law v roman civil for the rest (outside sharia counties) i watch with interest the british national party on the move. i am president of the Common law Association -CLASS- one of our major works, Pied Pipers of Babylon is free for download @ www.commonlawjurisdiction.com/wordpress or google: pied Pipers of babylon + Verl k Speer

Welcome everybody! I'm continually amazed at the broad spectrum of support. Folks who try to label our supporters with one broad brush are truly misguided.
