Need your help to push this over the top. Please digg this as well.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/02/11/conyers-said-hes-on-the-edge-of-starting-impeachment/

On Thursday, Chairman John Conyers’ House Judiciary Committee held a hearing at which Attorney General Michael Mukasey said that he would not investigate torture (video) or warrantless spying (video), he would not enforce contempt citations (video), and he would treat Justice Department opinions as providing immunity for crimes (report).

Conyers is pissed, and is thinking about beginning impeachment proceedings. About time!
You can help push him over the top on this decision.

Who is in line after impeachment?

If Bush and Cheney are impeached, isn't Nancy Pelosi next in line?

Just what we need-

That's probably the primary reason why impeachment proceedings haven't happened!

I sent him an e-mail earlier today. My single e-mail won't help unless, many thousands do the same. Bravery and Courage. I believe there are people in legislature that are good honest people. sometimes these people don't always do the right thing. However, this is a cause worth fighting for. We have seen more, trampling on the constitution in the past 7 years by this administration and that is directly against their oath they took to me, and every American.

To that add this: 6 Gitmo detainees to face trial for 9/11
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/11/911.charges/index.html

What is murkier, however, is whether a military prosecutor will be able to use any information or confessions gleaned through controversial tactics like waterboarding, an interrogation technique designed to simulate drowning. That will be up to a judge to decide, Hartmann said.

Despite Hartmann's guarantees, Charles Swift, a former U.S. Navy attorney, said the process will not afford detainees an adequate defense. He also raised concerns that trying and executing the men unfairly could make them martyrs in the eyes of extremists.

"The losers will be the American public unless some fundamental changes are made very quickly," he said.

One hurdle lies in seeking the death penalty. Key U.S. allies like Australia and Britain have blasted the U.S. for seeking the death penalty and have vowed to fight efforts to execute any of their national held at Guantanamo. Most countries join Australia and Britain in their opposition to capital punishment.

Another issue expected to stall the process is whether prosecutors will be able to use information gathered using controversial interrogation techniques.

I agree - impeach the whole lot of those bastards. The Dems are complicit in the raping of this country.

Impeach Bush and Cheney... and put Pelosi in the White House. No thank you.

This is propaganda, they are waiting to use it as a tool to get votes... you just wait... Dems don't give a flip about wrongdoing they just want power same as the rest of the lot. Washington sucks.

I would just like to take a moment to remind people the order of Presidential Succession

President Bush
Dick Cheney
Nany Pelosi
Robert Byrd
Condoleezza Rice
Henry Paulson
Robert Gates
Michael Mukasey

Do any of those folks sound like the guy/gal you want to take Bush's place?

It doesn't matter who will take his place. We need to uphold the Constitution and punish those who violate it.

No, so we would need to keep impeaching and convicting them until we got one who would fulfill his/her duties as president. Besides, even if we don't want the successor, it is important that presidents know they will be held accountable.

I don't have an issue with who takes their place I just think they need to be impeached before they design another attack on the USA and Bush goes more power hungry than he already is.

Dear myrealnameremoved,

It is the State Legislator’s duty, based on our Constitutional Federalism, to bring memorials to Congress about issues we believe to be important. We are now faced with the question of whether the President and Vice President should faithfully execute the law, or be above it.

HJM 4027 which I sponsored cites serious allegations of misdeeds by the Office of the Executive. It includes a long list of violations to the US Constitution, including domestic wiretapping, manipulating intelligence to mislead the Congress and the people about the reasons for attacking Iraq, torture and extraordinary rendition, and subverting the rule of law.

The memorial maintains that the citizens of Washington State expect and require their highest elected officials be subject to the laws of the land, like any citizen, and uphold the constitutional oath taken by them upon assuming office.

According to Thomas Jefferson’s Manual on Parliamentary Practice and Rules of the House of Representatives, state legislators are empowered to bring an impeachment resolution against the President. According to the oath I swore to uphold the Constitution, I am required to bring impeachment resolutions against the President.

If we don’t protest now the next President will think his or her office has the power to engage in the very same egregious activities without consequence.

I want to thank you again for taking the time to contact me with respect to this very important issue. Please do not hesitate to share additional comments, questions or concerns should they arise.

Very truly yours,

Maralyn Chase

Bush has less than a year left. He's not getting impeached. Kucinich introduced this awhile ago and the Democrats AND Ron Paul shot it down, so stop wasting your time.

I dont feel any of my time was wasted. I can say that I tried.

Time would be better spent helping Ron Paul and spreading his message. Bush isn't getting impeached. Period, end of story. Kucinich tried it and the democrats plus Ron Paul voted to table it. Bush will live out the last 11 months of his term and then hand over the reins to Obama, Hillary, or McCain.
