NAACP Image Awards: Host Anthony Anderson Hopes Jussie Smollett Wins
By MARC MALKIN

Jussie Smollett is nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his work on “Empire,” but it’s still unknown if he will attend the upcoming festivities on Saturday at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Anthony Anderson, who returns as host for the sixth consecutive year, hopes the actor will make an appearance.

“I hope to see him here,” the “Black-ish” star told Variety during a preview of the Awards on Wednesday morning. “I hope he wins. I’m happy for him that the system worked for him in his favor because the system isn’t always fair, especially for people of color.”

“So I’m glad it worked out for him,” Anderson continued. “It’s not my place or any other person’s place to judge him or what not, but I’m glad the he’s nominated…I hope he wins because I’d be interested to hear his speech.”..

...The two-hour Image Awards air live on TV One on March 30 at 9 p.m./8c.

Oh My: Kim Foxx's Office Admits She Never Actually Recused Herself From Smollett Case, Used the Term 'Colloquially'

It's been a bad week for Chicago State's Attorney Kim Foxx, the prosecutor whose office allowed indicted hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett to walk without even issuing an apology to the city he smeared. It's about to get worse. She supposedly recused herself (more on that later) from the case over improper contact with a politically-connected Smollett advocate, and at least one unidentified member of the accused actor's family -- yet her office ended up giving him the sweetheart deal of a lifetime. The move drew the ire of a wide swath of Chicagoans, including the Democratic Mayor and the police force. In response to the raging firestorm, the nation's nonpartisan association of district attorneys released a statement that picked apart Foxx's entire approach to this debacle, savaging her actions in an unsparing point-by-point memo:

“First, when a chief prosecutor recuses him or herself, the recusal must apply to the entire office, not just the elected or appointed prosecutor. This is consistent with best practices for prosecutors’ offices around the country...Second, prosecutors should not take advice from politically connected friends of the accused. Each case should be approached with the goal of justice for victims while protecting the rights of the defendant. Third, when a prosecutor seeks to resolve a case through diversion or some other alternative to prosecution, it should be done so with an acknowledgement of culpability on the part of the defendant. A case with the consequential effects of Mr. Smollett’s should not be resolved without a finding of guilt or innocence...Fourth, expunging Mr. Smollett’s record at this immediate stage is counter to transparency. Law enforcement will now not be able to acknowledge that Mr. Smollett was indicted and charged with these horrible crimes and the full record of what occurred will be forever hidden from public view. Finally, we believe strongly that hate crimes should be prosecuted vigorously but the burden of proof should not be artificially increased due to the misguided decisions of others.”

Basically every single thing Foxx and her team did in this case was arguably unethical, or at least ran contrary to professional best practices, according to the nation's guild of prosecutors. And somehow, the optics are getting even worse. Remember her ostensible "recusal" from the case, given her inappropriate conversations and potential conflict of interest? Er, about that, via the Chicago Tribune:

Can this get any shadier? It's probably time for the feds to move beyond a mere "review" of what happened here. Meanwhile, Foxx's office has been desperately searching for examples of precedent it can point to in response to a growing chorus of criticism, even putting the request in writing. It doesn't look like they came up with much. What say you, Ms. Foxx? This is positively painful:

"He chose his alternative prosecution." What the hell does that mean? Jussie Smollett -- the man who staged a hate crime, and was even willing to positively identify innocent people as his attackers until he realized the cops had tracked down the perpetrators he'd paid -- chose his "alternative prosecution"? Under which he admitted nothing, and suffered no meaningful consequence whatsoever? What is an "alternative prosecution" if it permits the guilty party to turn around and (a) accuse the jurisdiction he wronged of slandering him, (b) farcically maintain his innocence, and (c) openly ponder filing a lawsuit? What a joke. Foxx's office appears to have deliberately misled the public about her bogus "recusal," which now looks about as authentic as the "hate crime" Smollett orchestrated (with impunity, depending on federal action). A top-to-bottom disgrace. For their part, Smollett's lawyers are brazenly whining about Chicago officials' criticisms of their lying client, and inventing a breathtaking theory on how Smollett identified his attackers -- the black Nigerian brothers he hired -- as white Trump supporters. This is real, folks:

Oh, and by the way, despite the posturing from some desperate pro-Smollett conspiracy-mongers, police putting key witnesses in hotels during high-profile cases (especially featuring media circuses) is highly...usual. It's not any sign of malpractice on the cops' part. I'll leave you with local media fighting the gag order Foxx's team secured (and seem to be backing away from, but that may also be a lie):

UPDATE - This definitely ain't over:

NEW: Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel tells WGN Radio that police are "finalizing the cost" of the resources used on the Jussie Smollett case and will be sending him a bill.

This is spicy, spicy stuff. Trump should send the Feds in lock, stock, and barrel. Chicago needs a full Brazilian. Not only does the leadership need to be completely replaced, but there needs to a serious crackdown on the chaos in the streets. Maybe it'll finally start.

Jussie Smollett Photographed Leaving Chicago After Charges Dropped in Alleged Hate Crime Case

https://news.yahoo.com/jussie-smollett-photographed-leaving-chicago-134123416.html

March 28, 2019

Jussie Smollett said goodbye to Chicago on Wednesday, a day after prosecutors announced they were dropping charges against him for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself in January.

The Empire actor, 36, was photographed at O’Hare International Airport, heading to a departing flight. In the images obtained by the Daily Mail, he wore a long black overcoat, gray scarf, black flat bill hat, and aviator sunglasses. Smollett also carried a navy duffel bag.

Behind him, Smollett left a city at odds over the state’s attorney’s decision to abandon their criminal case and forego a trial, which the office previously explained in a statement obtained by PEOPLE had been made considering factors including Smollett’s willingness to forfeit a $10,000 bond to the City of Chicago as well as voluntary community service the actor had performed since he was charged.

Smollett’s willingness to forfeit a $10,000 bond to the City of Chicago

Jesus Sweet Tap-Dancing Christ...you do not "forfeit" bail money in exchange for the state dropping charges.

That's called a "bribe" for flying fuck's sake!

[h=2]Actor Jussie Smollett is likely to be fired from his Fox TV show Empire, reports Deadline.[/h] As the scandal around Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx’s inexplicable decision to drop all 16 felony counts against Smollett turns nuclear, sources tell Deadline Smollett is seen as radioactive.
“It’s a position that seems headed towards Empire coming back for another season, but most likely without Smollett, ” reports Deadline.

A source explains, “Things are so unclear and there is a feeling that this isn’t over, that there’s more to come.”
Indeed there is.
As Pajama Media’s Roger Simon put it Tuesday, Smollett is now seen by the public as “the new O. J., another man getting away with a crime he committed in full public view. That didn’t work out very well for The Juice. In fact, he’s a pariah for life. And it won’t for Smollett either.”
That is exactly right, with one crucial difference…
After butchering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, O.J. had no choice but to proclaim his innocence until the very end. His choice was a stark one: Life in prison or not.
Until this week, Smollett did have a choice, an opportunity to save himself through. Confession. Contrition. Accept your punishment. Ask for forgiveness. It’s happened before. Look at Mike Tyson. Look at Mel Gibson. It took time, but America loves a redemption story; we’re a country built on second chances.
What America will not forgive, though, is what happened in Chicago. Smollett let off the hook due to so-and-so’s political connections to the Chicago Crime Family Known as the Obamas…? Smollett’s obscene public statement afterward about how he and “his truth” are now vindicated…? Smollett taking the high ground in the fight for justice…?
Uh, no.
If the criminal justice system won’t punish Smollett, the American people will and already are by tuning out Empire in droves. And Empire star Taraji P. Henson is certainly not helping the Empire brand by making statements like “thank God the truth prevailed,” although her loyalty to her friend is understandable.
Nevertheless, we are only at the beginning of this story. What had been a scintillating celebrity scandal is now a full-fledged political and corruption scandal that reaches all the way up to a former president.
What’s more, the local Chicago media is nothing like America’s national media. These Windy City reporters are actual reporters, are not corrupt and lazy and desperate to protect Democrats. This story has legs, legs like a spider, eight of them and with outgoing Mayor Rahm Emanuel leading the charge, a Democrat no less, Obama’s former White House Chief of Staff no less, the meat grinder of this scandal is set on auto-repeat, and it is Smollett who will never escape it.
Emanuel is even considering a suit against Smollett as a means to recoup the massive expense the city incurred investigating a hoax. The $10,000 Smollett forfeited (his bail money) doesn’t even come close to cover that tab. A lawsuit is a wonderful idea and could drag out for years, ensuring Smollett’s unforgivable arrogance lives on.
From the sounds of it, Fox has a legitimate out if they do indeed decide to drop Smollett — and that is the pending federal case.

This is probably one of the top five craziest stories that we have followed on this forum.

The Jussie Smollett case just got even more bizarre with potential troubling revelations.
Internal Chicago Police records show detectives employed a top FBI Supervisory Special Agent specializing in investigating the trafficking of sexually exploited children, child prostitution and aggravated child sexual abuse to help investigate the Smollett assault hoax case.
During early stages of the investigation, records show, Chicago Police shared Intel with the FBI and FBI Special Agent Gregory Wing was working the investigation daily alongside city detectives.
But Wing supervises the Child Sex Crimes and Violent Crimes Against Children squad in the FBI’s Chicago Field Office and is considered one of the top agents investigating child sex trafficking in the country, according to the FBI.
What is one of FBI’s premier child sex crimes and child sex trafficking investigators doing working an assault case? Wing and his FBI task force track down high-profile pedophiles and pimps. He doesn’t intervene with local assault cases.

One internal Chicago PD document from the Smollett case states: “Per request of FBI Special Agent Greg Wing, the forwarded a copy of the search warrant Number 19SW5223, which was issued pertaining to the Apple Incorporated held iCloud account controlled by Jussie Smollett to FBI analyst Mariella Lopez via email … The received an email reply indicating receipt of this document.”
The question is why is Wing working an assault case with Chicago Police? And what did one of the FBI’s top sex crimes investigator want with a subpoena on Smollett’s phone records? Or Smollett’s phone records?

“Perhaps it’s developed into something larger than an assault or hoax case,” one FBI insider hypothesized. “He’s there for a reason and he is reporting back to the Bureau for sure.”
These new revelations also mean the FBI has been involved in the Smollett case for months, a fact that was not publicized. Likely intentionally.
From the Chicago PD case file:

The FBI and Chicago Police, however, are not commenting on what the FBI’s child sex crime unit is doing involved in the Smollett case. The Chicago Police records of the case mention Wing and his cooperation in several documents, including helping detectives coordinate logistics and working the daily tenets of the investigation. Much of the file, however, is redacted.
President Trump said Thursday that the FBI and Justice Department should and perhaps would examine the Smollett investigation, days after 16 felony charges against Smollett were mysteriously dropped.

But FBI insiders said Smollett could be cooperating in a much larger probe and may have offered intelligence that was “too good to pass up” as one insider said.
Did Smollett rat out Hollywood and is this why the FBI’s top agents and squads investigating child sex crimes were called to intervene?

City leaders are demanding that Empire star Jussie Smollett pay back at least $130,000 for the police investigation into his claims of a racial attack or they will go after him for making false statements that could carry even heftier penalties, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and municipal attorneys said Thursday.Chicago's Department of Law sent Smollett a letter threatening that if the $130,000 "is not timely paid," the city will go after him in court for making false statements, thus allowing them to collect more money from him under the municipal code.
According to the letter, violation of the false statement ordinance allows the city to collect up to three times the amount of damages the city sustains as a result of the violation – in Smollett’s case, that would be $390,000.
