If we could buy 1000 acres or more, who would join us?

I'll show this to Mark. I wonder if flooding would be an issue. Need to check how far away nearest town is, and history of twisters.

No mineral rights (might be scarce as hen's teeth in OK). Looks like there is some gas/oil activity nearby. Not sure what is going on with the barns in the area...hogs, maybe?

I live pretty much in the area if you can consider 60 miles away "in the area". I go through Antlers all the time and its nice country. Not what I would call mountainous but its not all flat land. The soil is good for growing food. Not a lot of jobs in the area unless you're into logging or farming. Talahina is pretty much mountains though and its beautiful. I've rode my motorcycle through there a lot. We always made a route through there and then what they call the winding staircase up to Wilhemena mountain in Mena Arkansas. Broken Bow lake is really nice too. The water is always cold there and its a pretty big lake with clear water. Anything you want to know about this area just ask.

Thank you! I will most likely be taking you up on that.

Oh and welcome to the forums! :)

Thank you Deborah. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have to the best of my ability. I've lived around here for over 25 years and know the area pretty well. Antlers is pretty close to Paris Texas by the way. AKA Tornado alley. But its not as bad as one might think. Unless you live in a trailer park lol. I'm serious too. They always hit trailer parks for some reason. Just had one a couple years ago here that wiped out a trailer park about 2 miles south of me. I live in the sticks by a good size lake on 21 acres of land. Its pretty rocky here but the hunting and fishing is good.

FYI...Oklahoma has a state income tax, Tennessee doesn't. Sales tax may be lower in some parts of OK though

A lot of the time, when there's no state income tax, the property taxes are pretty high. Property's nice though. I'll show it to Mark. Is that in the Cumberland Plateau area?

It's in middle Tennessee...not sure but I will look at the map Gunny posted earlier in the thread and see if I can figure out. There's also a 1000 acre tract on there but pretty wooded and closer to a highway I think.

* I don't think it is actually...Cumberland Plateau seems more on the other side of Nashville but maybe someone here more familiar can look at it.

The whole thing with the Cumberland Plateau is that it's hard to get to on foot from the East Coast. Depending on the kind of SHTF that may or may not be relevant.

ETA - AFAIK the primary advantage to the Cumberland Plateau is the difficulty to access it on foot from the population centers on the East Coast. Excepting that factor, one is better off further west I should think. The assumption is that in a grand SHTF, most folks are going to migrate on foot away from population centers.
