If we could buy 1000 acres or more, who would join us?

medical condition that prohibits walking in snow.. hubby has a prosthetic leg.. can't feel slippage. Must stay in the south - esp since we're both approaching the dreaded broken hip age bracket

I can roof and plumb and am in. All of my concerns have been stated and addressed. Montana is the state, IMO. Those that have difficulty in hard winter will be able to count on those who don't. I would arrive alone.

If you're gonna be in that area, it makes more sense to be just inside the Wyoming border with Montana, on the Eastern corner adjacent to Lakota territory. Wyoming has no income tax. Montana has no sales tax. The Lakota have been in a stalemated standoff with FedGov for decades. Wy has such a low population it would be easier to affect their politics. If you are going to live in that cold anyway, the NE corner of Wyoming is better. Live where there is no income tax, buy where there is no sales tax.

As far as SHTF, I'd want a primary bugout on the Cumberland Plateau, and a secondary bugout in the NE corner of Wyoming, and maybe a tertiary bugout in the SE corner of Alaska just on the coast.

Wyoming is also home to Free State Project West, so I'm told.:cool::cool:

It is! and 1000x smarter than NH for the FSP. Had the main body of the FSP gone to Wy I'd already be there.

Wy has such a small population that the FSP could have already taken over the gov without the Massholes messing it up. Instead, the main body goes to fight a losing population battle with Boston. :(

I remember the FSP in it's conception, when the battle was between WY and NH. I declined to participate when they chose the wrong state.

Agreed.... I'd be in wyoming now as well....

If I had my druthers, I would be in Western NC just because I love the area and have family roots there..plus it doesn't snow much from what I hear but I have no clue about taxes or if it is liberty friendly...also probably not great for jobs.

Question about Montana and Wyoming. I have some Lakota aquaintences who are riled up about their land being taken for the Keystone pipeline and also fracking. I'm not sure what part they are in though so wondering if that is an issue.

Job situation is atrocious, and the new GOP dominated Leg seems intent on ignoring liberty altogether in favor of a radical social agenda.

NE corner of WY is unaffected:

DOH I didn't want to archive that locally. :(

If I'm looking in the SE region, extreme SE Kentucky would make an excellent SHTF location.

Thanks for the info!

"If we could buy 1000 acres or more, who would join us?"

If you could buy a thousand acres, I'd merry you, but you squashed those plans early on in your post with that Mark this, and Mark that talk.

Seriously though. I wish you all, all the luck in pursuing such a plan.

The one thing I would try to consider is to buy outside of the yellow areas on most maps.

Just came across this...

I've been to northern Wyoming and while it was interesting, I wouldn't want to live there. I'm not particularly attracted to the more arid environments.

East or west? Because Yellowstone is desert as all get out. The NE corner is prime grassland and a bit of mountain forest.

Look at the pictures under "explore" in this section of Google Maps

What heavenlyboy34 is not true. Nevertheless, it does show that the website the Wikipedia page links to is not being updated. There might be an alternative organized effort to the Free State Project somewhere in the world but I'm not aware of it and one doesn't exist in Wyoming.

Yes, yes it does. I've spoken to the organizer personally. It was a split from the FSP that went to NH. The organizer is a bit crazy. Wrote a well known gun book can't recall the title offhand. It used to be called "Free State Wyoming" and i almost pledged in 2006 or 2007.

The guy calls himself "Boston T. Party"

He was a big voice in the original Free State Project when I started following it 2002~ish. The choice came down to NH or WY. The selection of NH made a bunch of people angry and about a quarter of the FSP participants broke off and formed their own project in WY.

LOL Don't tell me it doesn't exist, I was there when it happened!

That post is mostly accurate. I was the main person pushing WY and I moved to NH, which overwhelmingly won the vote. You called it by the correct name, unlike him. Their website has not been updated since 2009 as best as I can tell. Their group is pretty much dead and there is nothing else even close to comparing to the FSP.

Well, the overwhelming vote was wrong. For every 100 libertarians who emigrate, you get 5000 Boston liberals that emigrate. It won't be long before NH is so blue they call it indigo. I wish to God it weren't so, but it is. :( I saw that coming in 2004-2005 and decided that if FSP was settled on NH, they could do it without me. There may be some temporary gains, but there's just no future in it. One day I'm going to get married and have kids. To do all that work just to get politically overwhelmed by Massholes in 20 years and have to move again? No thanks. :( America has become an instant gratification society, and even we in the liberty movement usually neglect to account for the next 20-30 years in favor of the next 4 years. This kind of short-sightedness will be our undoing.
