I tried to warn you guys.

The original poster in this thread can understandably cast around for someone to blame. He's earned it, it sounds like. His expectations were high.

Don't blame the campaign. Ron Paul has been on so many mass media shows, it ain't funny.

BLAME AMERICANS. AMERICANS ARE ****ING STUPID AS ****!

But, before you blame Americans, realize that Iowa is even stupider than Americans are! They support Bush 70% pro and are still living in the First Wave agrarian economy! Not everyone knows that WIKIPEDIA IS A VERB!!!!!!!!

MANY IOWANS WHO VOTED DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE INTERNET IS!

This movement is the FUTURE. 10% in the first inning is GOOD. You sound like you're going to quit. The campaign is doing fine. He sounds GENUINE AND UNIQUE, everywhere I see him.

The real world is SLOW to change and everything takes WAY MORE ENERGY THAN YOU ORIGINALLY ESTIMATE. THAT'S BUSINESS, POLITCS, LIFE, EVERYTHING.

It's CALLED INERTIA AND IT'S A LAW OF THE UNIVERSE. Complain when it's clearly done. IT DOESN'T SOUND CLEARLY DONE TO ME!

WE ARE THE VANGUARD.

Look at his fundraising for the last three quarters. Support takes time to grow. Vote wise, we're second quarter now.

Finally, nothing is impossible. But, given the tremendous effort the orginal poster and others have put in, they are understandably exasperated that FRED THOMPSON GOT VOTES, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stepping into this thread without reading it, how is it that the campaign is being bashed for not effecting money raised a month and a half before the caucus into an on-the-ground organization comparable to candidates that had spent millions in the state up to a year ago?!? This in nonsensical.

OK, RP has been in the media a lot and they didn't have the head start like some of the others, but huckabee never had a head-start, even though huck basically ran in iowa.

but, none the less, in the past 3 months what have you seen/heard as per major moves by the campaign? it's been a reeeeeeeeaaally slow trot.

We are not connecting with people out there, because they don't believe in quixotic notions about eliminating all income tax, eliminating dpt of education, CIA, withdrawing from every country. I think the RP message has put the cart before the horse. I think we should focus on a few key issues, that the people need to be educated on, and then in time, after the holes in the constitution are patched up, and consensus is built, we can go for the rest.

Agree... kind of. The media AND the public are not REALLY hearing what Ron Paul is saying.

When he says: "eliminate the Dept of Education"
They hear: "end public schools"

When he says: "end the income tax"
They respond: "how will we pay for roads & schools"

When he says: "end the CIA"
They say: "how will we stop terrorists"

When he says: "withdraw troops from everywhere"
They hear: "Isolationism! get rid of the Army, Navy, etc. -- are you crazy?"

Seriously, this is what people are HEARING.

He must understand that he is speaking to the media and to voters. He gives them too much credit. They are morons, and he (generously) treats them like his equals.

And by "morons" I mean that he need to realize he is attempting to teach a bunch of very REMEDIAL students a LOT of stuff -- and they are "students" with short little attention spans and very limited knowledge -- and most of what they do "know" and were taught is flat-out wrong (witness the whole Lincoln/Civil War/Slave issue -- EVERY main history text for the past 50 years has emphasized "States Rights" as the cause -- but every media person out there FLUNKED history, or passed by cheating off someone else's test!)

So, he needs a REALLY GOOD speechwriter to help him both simplify and clarify his message on all of these things.

He must learn to say: "We need to eliminate the FEDERAL Dept of Education, SO THAT the Parents, Teachers, and Principals can control and improve their PUBLIC SCHOOLS at the STATE and LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEVEL."

He must say: "We need to reduce FEDERAL WASTE and BUREAUCRACY to work towards eliminating the BURDENSOME FEDERAL Income Tax, so we can SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE, and allow STATE and LOCAL governments to fund their roads and schools."

He need to say: "We must restore RESPECT for America around the world. We must STOP the TORTURE, CORRUPTION and CIA covert operations that make the world hate us... and refocus the CIA onto gathering SOLID INTELLIGENCE."

He must say: "We need to DEFEND AMERICA, and it is high time for Europe, Japan and Korea to PAY FOR THEIR OWN DEFENSE."

And he MUST say: "OUR TROOPS HAVE WON THE WARS in Iraq and Afghanistan. They DESERVE TO COME HOME, not to be stuck in the desert forever policing, fighting and dieing to prop up lazy & corrupt government in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan."

Now granted he in many ways he already SAYS all of these things -- just not as concisely as I have written above (and there is room for improvement in that too!) Currently, he normally takes 5 minutes to clarify and explain his positions, which is precisely 4 1/2 minutes TOO LONG; people have already "tuned him out"

I say we make it clear to the campaign that we're holding them accountable. In a free market, we hold the people who we give our money to accountable for their services. If they provide bad service, they lose business. In this case, we want the campaign to perform up to expectations, and following the philosophy of free market, we have a right to hold them accountable for all the money we've given.

Exactly.

Wow! I agree 100% with your post. If Ron could sharpen his message the way you just did, he could REALLY win people over in droves.

Sadly I have to agree re: the "lack of awareness" of most Americans... there seems to be a large lack of motivation for people to educate themselves about what's going on... (speaking re: extended family members who, no doubt, have deleted 9/10ths of the emails I have sent them the past 4-1/2 years non-stop re: the situation. I know they must have because they NEVER say "Wow, thank you for bringing that to my attention!" etc. NOT ONE 'THANK YOU' in 4-1/2-almost 5 years! which I try not to think about but just keep moving forward because, even if they do NOT WANT to know, they NEED to know, is how I look at it).

And more sadly still were the faces on the elderly people at the Carroll County, IA, caucus tonight... most of them in the audience had their EYES CLOSED before it even started at 8:30pm (must have been past their bedtime!) They looked SO VERY MUCH stuck in their ways, not having a clue that most all of the candidates are crooks from the get-go, pawns in the game, the BIG PICTURE of which most, if not all, of those people have not a clue.

No disrespect to senior citizens for whom I do have great compassion (I'm no Spring Chicken myself), yet I notice this attitude in my own mother who is just too "set in her ways" re: things like medical doctors (vs. alternative medicine), etc. She's from the generation who still think doctors have all the answers vs. thinking and researching for herself, etc. And quite frankly, I despise that apathetic attitude. :( It grieves my soul to no end, but all I can do is just keep plugging away trying to enlighten and educate people. It's a thankless job but somebody's got to do it... :(

HELL YES.

THANK YOU.

Where the F Bomb is the Campaign on this.

This is ELEMENTRY OPINION MANAGEMENT

The Campaign also needs to hammer State-specific issues.

Each state is more Red/Blue, Pro/Anti Gun, Pro/Anti Immigration, Pro/Anti War etc.

Paul needs to target his message to the dominant issues of any particular State.

Again, simple marketing princibles largely ignored by the Campaign.

The real world is SLOW to change and everything takes WAY MORE ENERGY THAN YOU ORIGINALLY ESTIMATE. THAT'S BUSINESS, POLITCS, LIFE, EVERYTHING.

I do realize the truth in that statement. An uphill battle for sure. Nobody is really giving up yet, I don't think, but it's good to release the frustration and re-group, and take a good look at every step of the way, imho.

But, given the tremendous effort the orginal poster and others have put in, they are understandably exasperated that FRED THOMPSON GOT VOTES...

Amen to that. I was totally shocked as I thought Fred was out of the water already. He was just fine on Law & Order, but comes across as a slow-thinking, heavily-lumbering fuddy-duddy everywhere else. Good actors don't necessarily make good-anything-else.

If you people have so little faith in the campaign staff, and I have no reason to doubt your analysis, then what makes you think Ron Paul will choose suitable cabinet members if he's elected? This does not bode well for a Paul presidency.

Paul's medical office and Congressional office, etc., were/are fine. The problem is the official campaign staff.
