3) This is where things get sketchy. After you fill out your ballot you bring it to a machine. You feed the ballot into machine. How do I know it counted my vote correctly?? I don't and never will.

Did they keep the ballot?
If so then after today you can ask for a recount. You need to find out how that is done and who can ask, but it needs to be done.
How many votes do you think they would have to recount?

That's great if they all vote dem, because Ron Paul supporters are to a large extent totally committed to him. We can worry about the democrats if we win the domination, for right now, every vote for a dem is one less for Mccain! (well, or Paul, but hopefully not!)

yea I think that sword cuts both ways unfortunately. Although I do fully support any McCain --> Obama changes

At least with the optical ballots the ballots are still there for a hand recount. There is no way to check the results on electronic machines.

Given the practicalities of modern elections (i.e. need to count lots of votes quickly) the optical scan ballots are the best compromise. They give immediate counts on election day, but can be counted by hand if there is any indication of vote tampering. They would be even better if there were automatic recounts in randomly selected precincts (sort of like unannounced random drug tests in professional sports to deter cheating).

I think that is a good proposal.
