I Just Terminated A Business Friendship Over Political Reasons

I have a friend who is a very talented coder and a generally solid guy, but sometimes he likes to challenge me on political things and sort of piss me off.

I feel like he uses disingenuous/ignorant arguments from time to time.

For example, I recently shared this photo on facebook:

And then my friend started talking shit about how the guy is "dumb for joining the Navy", "the pic is probably fake", "he took an oath to follow orders", etc.

Of course my blood boils during such "debates" and I am likely to point out things like "we both know that NAZI's could be invading and you would just cross your fingers and hope that they leave you alone and let you play with your computer", and make such sarcastic comments about "needing more heroes like him" etc.

So we had the facebook "debate", and then the next day I sent him a link to this photo which I find hilarious:

Turns out that the guy is still pissed off because I was making fun of him the day before, and now he wants to bitch and whine and tell me that I have personal problems because I was insulting him.

That's when I ended up telling him that all his arguments are rude and stupid and I don't want to work with him anymore and he can go fuck off.

I'm at least smart enough to keep my politics to myself during my day job, but when someone is supposed to be my friend and we are doing work together it is a lot more difficult.

I guess that I just can't be bothered anymore.

On a side note, does anyone really good at PHP and Javascript want to make a couple hundred dollars perhaps?

Those pictures you posted are in fact fake. They were posted to the U.S. marines main recruiting site when it was allegedly hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army.

Also interested in the coding job; PM me

eOs, long time no see homey!

The guy was talking stupid shit irrespective of any possible questions regarding the "Syrian Electronic Army".

Also, are you sure that is not just a counter-intelligence cover meant to nullify the effect of this viral photo?

In other words, do we know that these photos did not exist on the internet before the recruiting site was allegedly hacked?

I will PM you with some more info soon.

I paid him to do some coding for me from time to time.

I understand. You can't have these conversations with everyone. You know that. Like shemdogg said... In fact, the more you know, the more you're at risk of that. That applies to a lot of things.

I agree he was dumb for joining the Navy. The picture could be real or fake, but that isn't the point, the point is that many people in the armed services are against this war, and that is a fact. The last point I also agree with, he did take an oath to follow orders, but not an oath to blindly follow unconstitutional orders. Part of his oath is to protect America from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, which would include those issuing unconstitutional orders.

First he said the guy was "dumb", then he said "it's probably fake", then he said "they are supposed to follow orders", and it was all just stupid shit-talking without any real point whatsoever.

I also told him the same thing about swearing to protect the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic, but the guy was just in stupid shit-talking mode and didn't care.

If you talk like that to a "friend" no wonder he is going to be pissed at you. That is not the correct way to debate someone, especially someone you consider a friend.

Fuck that. If people are going to say rude stupid shit then they deserve to be mocked. Especially when they are just talking shit and can't even be bothered to try and use good faith arguments that are internally consistent. I have no time for cavalier motherfuckers who lack a modicum of respect when discussing important issues. Fuck em!

Best to know who your friends are,,, or aren't,, before the shooting starts. ;)

THey were posted all over the internet before the Marines.com hack.

All for the better Petar.

I'm the sure the guy believes in those homo-erotic marriages too. Better to part ways before he dropped that bomb on you.

The guy actually has a freakishly strong case of "yellow-fever" and I think he may end up marrying his current girlfriend.

He's a solid dude, but I'm just not interested in listening to any more of his stupid bullshit/whining.

Yellow fever? I'm surprised you haven't hunted him down already.

Absolutely. If you had your druthers.

Interesting that you should have such a strong opinion of me. I almost wish that I knew you or something. Anyway, I don't wish this guy any ill will, so I'm not sure what you might be talking about. Have a nice day.
