Either way, just wanted to say there was a cool cop this one time, and I met him.

Or, there's another way to look at this.... I have run into "cool" cops periodically as well.
Stop and think for a second about what they're doing.
They're deciding who gets off and who gets punished.
They've removed law from the equation altogether.
The law is what it is, it says what it says. We're always fed the bullshit line from cradle to grave, that if we don't like it, we can organize and get it changed.
But there's no reason to do that. You might end up with a cool cop!

Meanwhile, the laws stay on the books. The cops get to play judge, jury, and executioner, and the judicial branch of the government continues to simply rubber-stamp whatever the cops say.

No, your cool cop isn't cool. Your cool cop is the sum, the total, the entirety of the problem. There's simply no reason to watch our overseers. Some of them are cool!
When every single one of them is a complete dickhole - that's when society is going to wake up.

What are the laws concerning phone calls in this instance I wonder? If one were allowed a phone call could you call the sheriffs department and tell them you were kidnapped and held against your will?
I'm still waiting on the ultimate low cost video system that transfers video to a secure location and covers my vehicle 360 degrees w/ audio.

Ah, I see. Seems like the local sheriff should have a problem in the next election. I really don't know about the legal aspect and whether you would have any recourse in that area but I think I would at least schedule a meeting with the Sheriff. Ask him if he is fine with a policy of incarcerating an sober individual who's only exercising his rights. Wish ya luck! Buy him a Sheriff Mack book. Perhaps he will change policy.

When I was a cop, some of them would book you on "probable cause" but no official charge which gave them a little bit of time (24 or 48 hours) to charge. The prosecutor didn't want them to do that anymore... I wonder why lol. It is a violation of rights and you should damn well sue for false arrest and imprisonment.

The American Beverage Institute lobbies against checkpoints. You might also be able to get a referral from the National Motorist Association. These organizations might also like to know your story.
