I've honestly never paid attention to the 'details' of the differences between the types of conservatism. But thanks to the 'argument' (and the Santorum sweep)I've been having with some people on a CNN post on facebook, I decided to actually look it up. I figured they weren't really too different. I mean, at it's core I had assumed Conservatism was meant to... conserve?

Instead, at it's core, Social Conservatives believe in a bunch of things that, in my opinion, do absolutely nothing to help America in it's current state. In fact, I don't believe Social Conservatism even has a place in government! I mean really, you're government based beliefs, Rick Santorum, is basically oppose anything gay, including allowing gay people to adopt. You oppose pre marital sex, drugs, porn, abortion, stem cell research.... blah blah.

My question is, WHAT THE HELL DOES ANY OF THAT DO TO SAVE AMERICA RIGHT NOW? I think people just hear the word, 'conservative' and assume it's great. But honestly, none of that has any real effect on anything in terms of bringing the United States economy back to where it needs to be. So when people on CNN's facebook post keep saying, 'Santorum, the only real conservative running' I have to laugh. It's hilarious. The idea that just because he oppose all that he can fix our nation? First off, I'm going to go ahead and assume 90% of Independents don't care about most of those issues, in terms of them being a huge deciding factor (maybe all of them combined, but just one or two, I doubt it). So when Santorum goes up against Obama, and Obama drops the, 'Rick, You had a 38% approval rating in your own state' comment, what are the independents going to do? Oh, well, Santorum was hated in PA, but since he opposing everything gay, I'm still gonna vote for him? I don't think that's going to happen.

I find it amazing that the economy isn't even the thing people are voting for a candidate for, it's whether or not they can beat Obama. Who cares? If they don't have a solid plan to fix the economy, what makes them beating Obama any better than Obama? Nothing. And when the economy is brought up as the main reason for voting for people, they generally vote for anyone except Ron Paul. The ONLY FISCAL CONSERVATIVE.

In short, America is stupid. /rant.

I like the term "fiscal conservative" but when it comes to social I am very liberal myself

An "old style" conservative pretty much adhered to the foreign policy of our founding fathers and opposed the progressive Wilson's "use our military to make the world safe for democracy" and they were labeled "isolationists" for it. In fact, that term "isolationist" was actually invented in the Council on Foreign Relations. Side note so was the term "Islamo-facist" by Frank Gaffney. The old style conservatives otherwise known as "the old right" also opposed the authoritarianism of Woodrow Wilson when he threw news reporters in jail for speaking out against our involvement in WWI. He also threw others in jail for that like Eugene Debbs. The old right opposed the Federal Reserve and the 16th Amendment (IRS). They opposed FDR's New Deal, and other entitlements like Socialist Security, Dept of Ag.

What Santorum calls "traditional conservative" really means a new style conservative or neoconservative flavored with a touch or religious dogma. What these 'traditional conservatives" today don't seems to realize is that they have been used by the globalist minded neoconservatives to attract the religious faction to empower and give legitimacy to their war mongering. They use the terminology of a fiscal conservative but mix it with the rhetoric of a theocrat. This is why Christians who say they follow "The Prince of Peace" Jesus Christ think nothing of equating killing innocent people in countries that never attacked us and patriotism and flag waving with some twisted brand of Christianity.

Labels suck and distract but for argument's sake an old style conservative would be a "classical liberal" Or a "paleo-conservative" and a "neoconservative" is basically a progressive

That's why I call myself a "Constitutional Conservative" since it puts basically my whole platform out there in one shot, and makes it blatantly clear exactly what I intend to conserve.

That also has a lot to do with the 501(c)3 blasphemy causing churchgoers to unknowingly idolize government above God, and the rise of 21st Century Phariseeism.
