I am tired of being called a racist

What are you proud of? And are you more proud of being Southern than of being American? Have you ever met anyone who flew a Northern flag or said they were proud to be Northern.

I am proud my ancestors stood their ground against all odds against an overbearing Federal government, and fought to the bitter end.

The war was never about slavery to the Southerners, you cannot raise an army of around one million (including 90,000-200,000 who were African-American), if your goal was to permanently protect an institution that was to the detriment to everyone but the slaveholder (even then, one could argue that is was to their detriment as well), and anyone with three brain cells back then could have told you that.

I have no problem with the Confederate flag. Then again, I majored in History (focused on Civil War History) and tend to look upon it as a historical item and not necessarily a racist item. The southern states did rely upon slave labor to fuel their economy, but to me, the Confederate Flag is more of a symbol of rebellion than anything derogatory.

Just my opinion, though.

Exactly. The only thing that had to do with slavery and the civil war was that slavery went from privatized to government owned. We still have slavery today. The government owns you, you cant even take home a full paycheck if you work.

Slavery would have died out, civil war or not. The Civil War was more about the Federal Govt.(the north) taking power over the States. So with that, I am proud that my ancestors stood up to this.


The irony is having a biracial man promote more "slavery" via the government towards his people. The people voting for all of this socialized care does not understand the freedoms that will be lost, nor do they realize that the standard of living will go straight to hell just as our economy is doing right now. You like things like having a flat screen tv, and nice cars, well socialism and marxist ideas will not get you any of that. A lot will have to be given up. I am not ready to give up things that I have earned.

With saying that, when you hear that the south will rise again, this could be very well true in the future seeing what is going on today. That is not a racial statement, we want the overbearing government off of our backs. We just want to be free people with no government involvement. The flag represents rebellion of big government point blank.

The after-effects of the Civil War didn't get rid of the plantation. It only extended its borders on a national scale.
