I am Pro-Ron Paul but don't see what's wrong with the NAU/NAFTA Superhighway?

Wait a second, all the gripes stated above about the superhighway having tolls, not every small town having an exit, areas of it being walled off, and a foreign company owning it goes for other toll roads that have nothing to do with the NAU or NAFTA. Anyone who lives in Indiana knows about Interstate 80 (the Indiana tollway), which runs east and west. I-80 has been a tollway for decades, has never provided an exit for every small town (small towns flourish anyway because they have other roads to use), and I believe it was recently leased to a foreign company for billions of dollars.

The leasing of the Indiana tollway to a foreign company was a good deal for the taxpayers because the taxpayers get all the billions of dollars up front and the foreign company that has the lease to the Indiana tollway recoups its up front expense over several decades via tolls. However, only the actual users of the Indiana tollway pay the tolls if they choose to drive on it. If a person doesn't want to pay the tolls, they can drive on State Highway 20, which is not a toll road although the speed limit is lower.

In short, just because a highway is leased to a foreign company, requires tolls to drive on it, does not provide an exit for every town, does not mean that it is part of a conspiracy to further NAFTA or the NAU because there are plenty of other toll roads throughout the U.S. that fit the description in various parts of the country. If you don't like the toll road, then don't drive on it.

Wrong. Reasons the highway is a bad thing.

1. Taking land from Americans under IMMINENT DOMAIN, This is not just a small amount of land either this will be a huge chunk of Texas (where it is starting).

2. The highway will be 1/4 of a mile wide all the way up to Canada (you tell me how much this is going to ruin peoples lives when they take their land

3. America is not making money on this highway. It is funded by foreign investors who will reap all the rewards.

4. Now after people have given up their land they will be taxed to drive on this highway. Now instead of having freeways, where our very freedoms come from in freedom of transportation, to now we will have to stop and be "taxed" on driving. (we already pay for freeways and highways with our gas taxes).

5. There will be a non complete law that will state that no other highway can be "in competition" with the highway so no one will be able to make a highway close to it that won't toll.

6. It will further the North American union agenda and will further our illegal immigration issue. The reason this is bad is because a NAU will render our constitution "null". Do you really think it would be a good idea for the current batch of corrupt politicians to make another constitution? Do you really think that constitution will be written to our benefit like the first one created by moral men who just got out of a government of tyranny? I hope your answer is no...

7. Anyone that says this is not going to happen or is a conspiracy etc...needs to watch this. This movie is not a propaganda movie, it is a documentary about the people that are fighting this right now in Texas. God bless them! http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...219&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=2

there are countless other reasons in this movie why this is such a bad idea...

Very good discussion thread. I have read all the arguements stated here but I dont think anyone has touched on the individual states rights. Doesnt this infringe upon local legislation and further reduce a states rights to their boarders? I could be way off base here.

TWO WORDS: EMINENT DOMAIN

Ok, more than 2 words really. Where do you think they will get the land to build this giant highway? They will TAKE IT AWAY from private landowners. That's how. And that is just ONE reason. There are many more as these other folks have pointed out.

AGREED.

Private investors... uh... yeah... that's called capitalism
Tolls... uh... yeah... that's how they make money, it's not a double tax, because our taxes shouldn't be going to repair these roads. In an ideal world there would be no tax money for roads, and all roads would be private tolls.

HOWEVER

EMINENT DOMAIN = TERRIBLE!
NON-COMPETE LAWS = TERRIBLE!

What is bad about it? Why shouldn't we have it?

Please back up all statements with quality sources.

No propaganda videos on youtube please.

They're taking land from the middle of our country and turning over to international interests. American law will not apply on those roads. It will not benefit America, only global corporate interests.

So-called free trade agreements are not free. A highly-regulated big government forces out small scale competition. When these corporate giants move into developing countries, they are even more brutal and ruthless in completely dominating a region.

24,000 people throughout the world starve to death every day as a result of this economic savagery. We are sheltered from seeing this here in the First World, except when a handful of lucky immigrants are allowed to come here.

This is why Islamofascists targeted the World Trade Center. It is the number one cause of a world-wide resentment of the US, the corporate headquarters for economic hitmen who destroy freedom throughout the world.

Because in order to make the highway, millions of acres of private farmland would be taken by the government through eminate domain, then handed over to a spanish construction company that will build the highway, then inact a toll to drive on it.

So the people it directly effects do not want it, and even though the fought against having it, they would have to pay to drive on what was once thier own land.

For starters, I'll get more in depth when i get back from work.

This is one of the biggest problems to me. The theft of private property will be huge. Eminate Domain has been widely abused in my opinion.
