I'm still undecided on how to handle my grad school plans. Most of the schools I'm looking at are in the SE, no the north. I really would like to move up to NH, but I just don't have a clear plan yet. Maybe I can visit next year over spring break or something.

I'm thinking Keene for a variety of reasons but I still haven't made up my mind...

I like Keene because I've read it's not very Republican (which honestly is where I'd rather focus my efforts politically in NH- in a Democratic place that i'm sure Libertarians and RPRs are trying to turn as I write. I'd rather go somewhere where it's a real challenge to change things than to go somewhere where Ron Paul Republicans/Libertarians already dominate- and i'm not saying that's bad or anything it's just not the path I want to take in NH and I think it's important people go to both Dem/Rep dominated places to plant the seeds of liberty as well as the swing places. I'd rather start in a place where we've got ground to make up.)

I like Keene because it's a college town which means they'll where be a good amount of people my age (i'm in my 20s) and because i'm interested in going back to school as well in history or political science. I think moving to Keene would be a good place to scout whether or not I want to go back to school.

Keene is #1 on my list and I know what you mean when you say you like a challenge. Mach and Dover are next on my list.

My only concern comes later... What might Pres Lincoln send hither to restore "order"? Will he order up swarms of his army killbots and drones to intervene, even after NH follows every "rule" to the letter and manages to begin to escape from the federal octopus? Will it be unexplained accidents and/or political re-subversion via the tried and "true" lame false flag staged events that justify invasion in order to restore "democracy"? The MSM already tries to poison Liberty with words to justify, please and support their evil overlords at every opportunity to do so. They'd all love to see Liberty just fail on its own, but if they don't want to leave that to chance, just how ugly will they get?

The worst possible outcome for limited government types concentrated in one small area: It ends up "like shooting fish in a barrel" (or killing pigs in a pen).

Keene has very little Republican presence. In 2010 the state voted overwhelmingly Republican and all of the swing areas in NH were identified. Keene was like VT in that it didn't swing. The voters of Keene overwhelmingly reject small government and Republicanism at every turn. However, working within the Democratic Party might be even harder in Keene because the Democratic Party bosses (yes, unlike the GOP in NH, the Dems have controllers) hate free staters and spend money informing the voters of Keene which Democratic candidates are bad people - which Democratic candidates are Free Staters. In order to get support from the Dems in Keene, I recommend acting as normal as possible, giving lots of money to promote statism and working your butt off trying to elect statists over and over again. Seriously, it is that bad and that hard to make changes within the Democratic Party. Many of these people hate the FSP. Much of the state party's plan to win the 2012 elections is to call anything they don't like the actions of the tea party and the Free Staters. They hate people associated with the FSP. They publicly call FSPers names like bullies in high school. They or their children have egged the house of a FSPer. I was in a bar when a group of FSPer were doing karaoke and 2 people tried to physically attack us. The police responded with automatic weapons. Since we were attacked, we were banned from the property. They take yard signs out of yards. I cannot recommend strongly enough not moving to Keene to be part of the Democratic Party structure. It is like trying to reform NYC, LA or DC.

Much of that has to do with the childish way some free staters have acted in Keene over the years. They attend Democratic events and talk about anarchy. The attend city council meetings and talk about anarchy. They chalk the Civil War monument in town. They go to middle school and yell at the kids. They walk around Keene topless. They organize 420 pot smoking events at the center of town during the afternoon traffic which include high schoolers. 1 possible free stater was even selling a drug to high schoolers in public at these events day after day. They drink water at city council meetings disguised as beer. They pay property taxes with $1 bills. They yell at school crossing guards. They stand in front of police cars. They smoke pot inside the police station. They try to garden in the center of town, with a gun. They try to hold dance parties in the center of town.

Most of these things would be thought of by many here as courageous or entertaining when taken individually. However, the voting population of Keene tends to be very statist and many of those people seem to have cemented a deep seeded hatred in the minds of many of the local voters. They feel that free staters are of a lower class so that it is OK to publicly demonize free staters. They also feel that free staters are trying to ruin Keene, fundamentally change their lives for the worse, abolish the government, bring about anarchy and private armies.

If you want lots of people to not like you because you are a free stater, move to Keene. It is an uphill struggle in Keene, for sure. FSPers have had success as Democrats in Manchester. 1 FSPer was elected as a state rep twice as a Democrat and it looks like he is about to win again. Other FSPers win the state rep primaries in the Democratic Party in places like Manchester and Nashua. Democrat FSPers are able to win local offices in Grafton but not state rep primaries. I recommend Keene if you don't like politics, are independently wealthy or don't want to live anything more than a regular middle class life style.

Of course, you should do as you want. If it doesn't work out, worst case, you just move to a different area of New Hampshire. That's why I usually recommend that people start out somewhere more central like Manchester, rent, look for a good job and and place to live; while, at the same time, explore the area and get to know activists from around the state.

Yeah, that is a really cool aspect of Keene. Of course there are colleges in Manchester but I like the college in Keene better because is much of Keene is focused on the college as the population is so small.

The employment opportunities are 10 times greater in Manchester than Keene, especially if you have a car. They are even greater if you live in Nashua or Salem NH because Boston is a reasonable commute from Salem (30 minutes if there is no traffic).

For job considerations, if you are single, have 4 months of savings and a car, move pretty much where ever you want. That would include Keene or anywhere else. Worst case, after 2 months of looking for a job in a specified field, you either broaden your search or move near Nashua or Manchester where there is an unlimited supply of jobs. If you only have a couple months of savings, I recommend Manchester as it is cheaper than Nashua and has plenty of jobs for everyone.

I really like Keene. I try to recommend what I think is best to people, based on my knowledge and experience, when they have questions about NH.

The greater Boston area is maybe the 2nd major financial section in the Northeast. Maybe all of the East Coast from ME to FL. Much of it is focused in Boston. Much of it is spread out all the way to Bedford, Amherst, Merrimack, Salem and Dover in New Hampshire. There are 1000s and 1000s of jobs. Here is the FSP resource for jobs. http://freestateproject.org/jobs It is a lot of info and takes some time to go through but if you have experience, you should be able to find a job in that sector in NH or at the very worst, in northeastern MA. There are a ton of people who work in finance and the news reports from time to time how MA companies are relocating to or expanding in NH because it has the least restrictive trust laws in the country and a higher quality of life than MA. I'm hoping to start work in the games industry by the time I move. Are there any good liberty communities near Boston? There are some really great game studios in the Boston area and being relatively close to a great job would help to ease the transition.

There are liberty activists in a bunch of the towns and cities near the NH/MA border in southeastern NH. The place with the most events is Nashua. Pro-liberty people get elected in NH and some of the other near-by communities like Hudson and even all the way near the ocean in Seabrook.
