Thanks again guys... some good points... and seapilot those are very good points, however, I replied to him before I read your post. Here's what I said:
"I think that Iran going nuclear is really Israel's issue. Those two countries are the ones with the beef. Israel has 300 nuclear weapons and we are beating the wardrums here in the United States as if an Iranian nuclear weapon would be scary. I think we should let Israel decide how they want to handle the situation, and not have this talk about how soon should we interfere with two sovereign nations. If there's convincing evidence that Iran is threatening our national security or if Israel requests our aid, then I (and Ron Paul) believes that we should declare war through congress. As far as North Korea, yes, I think they are dangerous and they have been for a long time, but I don't think our presence in South Korea is what is preventing an attack. I think our involvement in South Korea only builds more resentment from North Korea. I believe it's our occupation that causes resentment, not our occupation that thwarts attacks.
And ultimately, we are broke. So... what you are saying is that we should be borrowing money from China to protect Taiwan against China? That does not make sense. Countries need to figure out how to defend themselves, bottom line. I don't know how any American can feel morally okay with the fact that we spend American lives and American money in defense of other nations, when most of the time they don't want us meddling in their affairs to begin with, especially when people are unemployed and lacking healthcare and basic needs here at home.
I think this is a pivotal time in history and it's important for us Americans to honestly look at our state of affairs... and make some tough decisions in order to come back out on top. I've always reasoned back to Ron Paul because, at the end of the day... he doesn't say these things just to say them. He believes what he believes from years of studying history and economics... and he is honest. When will we ever have a chance to actually have a president that isn't going to show us the smoke and mirrors and tell us everything is going to be okay while the floor crumbles beneath our feet?"
