Huckabee compares being gay to using alcohol, profanity

Again, anyone too stupid to realize that someone can choose to learn to like a style of music he doesn't already like isn't worth talking to. Ciao!

I have already addressed your question. Someone can try to learn to like a style of music. You can't make yourself like it. You can try to influence it but that does not mean you will always be successful. Now your turn to answer my question, or will you continue repeating the same childish insults?

Its not really that much of a speculation cos this topic that been researched well enough. Gestational hormone treatment in children have some effect on their sexual orientation. I will post an abstract to a paper written about it

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3296090/

There is a lot of research backing it up, its not just me theorizing. Also, its many factors which all add up to literary push you to one team or the other. This meaning that Danno could be right with his theory about micronutrients. At the end of the day, biology chooses for the vast majority of us which team we play for. And its not a choice we make like which career to go into.

That's nice. According to the APA it's not settled. There are scientific papers on all sorts of "science" that's not settled. And people move from one "team" to the other voluntarily every day.

Something for you to read.

http://www.apa.org/topics/lgbt/orientation.aspx
There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation.

I'm not sure what part of "no consensus" is difficult for people like you and Dannno to understand. (And Crashland is just bat guano crazy).

Once the APA changes their website to say there is actually a consensus be sure and let me know okay? Meanwhile there are scientific papers that say the marijuana causes severe psychosis and scientific papers that say that it doesn't. Saying "there is no consensus" on that isn't wrong either.

Yup, same childish insults. Not worth my effort anymore because obviously you aren't interested in productive dialogue.

You started with the childish insults and you have not attempted productive dialog. You gave up the right to have dialog with me when you decided to be a little shit and accuse me of calling my own friends and family liars. Again, anyone too stupid to realize that someone can choose to learn to like a style of music he doesn't already like isn't worth talking to. Ciao!

At least I attempt to answer your questions, as opposed to your copy/paste game which is more worthy of a place like Youtube than RPF. I didn't accuse you of calling your own friends liars. I said that you don't believe people when they claim to be gay and when they claim that they had no choice in the matter, which is the vast majority of gay people. Apparently your friend didn't fall into that category and I have no idea about your family member. I am going based on the fact that you are trying to remain agnostic about whether sexual orientation is a choice. Saying you don't know either way means you don't believe people when they claim it is not their choice, and it also means you are applying a double-standard if you yourself didn't choose to be attracted to members of the opposite sex.

Why LOL?

Can anyone here possibly object to what he said?

After seeing the comments of some people in this thread I'm not surprised. If you dare say that maybe, just maybe, there is some choice involved in sexuality, the illogical haters come out of the woodwork.

Liar. Your answers themselves were dishonest. You've contradicted yourself multiple times and you never apologized for your unfounded claim that I didn't have any gay friends and once I showed that to be false you went into the "Well you're' calling them liars" lie. Sorry but I can only take so much stupidity and dishonesty from you. I was patient at first and tried responding to your questions but you kept coming back to the same bullshit questions I had already answered. I said early on that there is no way to know if I was in a position, like being in prison for life, what choice I would make. At first you stupidly claimed my saying that was "laughable". Then you came back with "Well I can understand that, but since you wouldn't choose to be put in prison then that really isn't a choice". Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! If you persist in being that stupid then I'm going to call you out on it and I'm not going to dignify your willful ignorance with a response. You're right. This isn't YouTube. So you shouldn't act like such an ass. Now welcome to my ignore list.

Actually I said you don't know any gay people well enough to believe them when they say they didn't choose their sexual orientation. Which still holds true because you still claim that you don't know whether they have a choice or not.

I said early on that there is no way to know if I was in a position, like being in prison for life, what choice I would make. At first you stupidly claimed my saying that was "laughable".

When I said "laughable", I quoted you claiming that you can just choose to change your sexual orientation. Go look at it again. I don't care if you don't know what might happen to you in prison -- of course you don't. None of us do.

Then you came back with "Well I can understand that, but since you wouldn't choose to be put in prison then that really isn't a choice". Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! If you persist in being that stupid then I'm going to call you out on it and I'm not going to dignify your willful ignorance with a response.

When did I say since you wouldn't choose to be put in prison then that isn't really a choice? I never said that, you did. I don't care if you choose to be put in prison or not.

You're right. This isn't YouTube. So you shouldn't act like such an ass. Now welcome to my ignore list.

Ok then.

Anyone who thinks homosexuality is a lifestyle choice is just sad... Is it absolute and unchanging? No, nothing is. Can abused children become confused about sexuality and "become" homosexual? I believe so. I also believe, knowing MANY gay men and women, that it is no more a 'lifestyle choice" than me being attracted to beautiful brunette women. It's in my DNA, just as it is in theirs.

RP is oft quoted as saying we get our rights as individuals, not because we belong to certain groups or categories. Live and let live. What the HELL does homosexuality have to do with religious views? If there is a church that is willing to marry a gay couple and you disagree with it... go to a different church. Unless someone infringing upon your god-given rights, sit down and be quiet with your homophobia.

Except so far it's not shown to have been in their DNA and there are identical twins where one is straight and one is gay. (Hey, that rhymes!) And yes I see you have the caveat of "People can become gay". Exactly. So why the fuss? Maybe some people don't have any choice. Maybe everybody has a choice. So what? Why does it mean so fucking much to you and other people what people think about something that none of us can prove? Seriously? It doesn't matter whether or not I believe someone is born alcoholic as long as I don't treat that person wrong either way.

Live and let live goes both ways and so does someone's first amendment right to say whatever he wants about homosexuality or anything else. This "You must sit down and shut up if you don't agree with my point of view" bullshit is what is wrong with this country. You don't like someone saying X whatever X is? Quit being lazy and change the TV channel. In the case of the OP, CNN lied about what Huckabee said. He no more compared being gay to drinking alcohol and swearing than he compared it to liking classical music and ballet. That's his opinion. So what? Oh....that's right. In your world certain people aren't allowed to voice their opinions. My bad.

"Christian Gay Parades and Bacon Wrapped Jewish Shrimp"

That's the conclusion I came to when one of my HS friends pressured me to try a beer he received in a trade for a perfectly good lockblade. I told him it tasted awful. He said "Well at first, but it's an acquired taste." No offense intended to beer lovers of the world.

It probably was aweful, I imagine it was a macro lager.

Of course, some ales have an acquired taste as well, such as IPAs.

Red Tail is a good starter ale.

Wait a minute, are you implying that being gay is an acquired taste??

I have no idea what a macro lager is. If I recall correctly it was a Budweiser.

I was responding directly to someone who said "I can't imagine someone wanting to acquire a taste for something that taste like shit." As for being gay, I'm sticking to what I've said all along. Nobody really knows. People can speculate. Your theory about twins stealing micronutrients from each other in utero is nothing bot a theory. In fact I wouldn't even put that to the theory level and just call it rank speculation. And since all you have is rank speculation you aren't in a position to say it must be this way or that way. Nobody knows so everybody believe whatever you want to believe and leave other people alone.

Not at all what I said. You can and should say whatever you feel is right... just don't go asking the government to step in and enforce laws to that end. If you do, you're on the wrong forum.

Well I don't know anyone who wants religious views enforced by the government. I do know a people who would like to get the government out of marriage altogether and are concerned that at some point, in the name of protecting gay rights, that religious views will be trampled on by the government. In fact they already are on some level.

Huckabee compares being gay to using alcohol, profanity

They go together like peas and carrots. Obviously, every time Huckabee had a gay experience, it included alcohol and profanity.

"We're so sensitive to make sure we don't offend certain religions, but then we act like Christians can't have the convictions that they have had for over 2,000 years," Huckabee said.

Do you disagree with ^that? If so why?

This is the biggest farce ever.

Ever heard a baptist try to explain how all of the 'wine' in Jesus' day was non-alcoholic?

Christians weren't always this puritanical... it mostly started with.. lets see... oh! The Puritans.

Previously Christians were only anti-gay when they were also being anti-jew, anti-women and other things, which generally happened in short bursts of social frenzy.

The Roman Christians were very comfortable with homosexuality, it was all sex that was generally looked down upon as a waste of time given the imminent return of Christ, and then mostly by those that had come from the Pharisaical line, like Paul.

So yeah, tell me again how the *massive* quantities of fine wine Jesus provided to a party, that had already been drinking for 3 days straight, was non-alcoholic.

Huckabee, like most prominent Americans, has a completely ahistorical outlook on life.
