How will Ron Paul handle Iran?

YEah personally, I think Iran just wants to be left alone.... its funny how the 'Axis of Evil' are the same countries that dont follow the rules of the world bank... anybody else find this a bit suspicious?

uhmmm, I did NOT know that.. where is that info? I would like to read more about it...

I'm having a hard time convincing my dad to go with Ron Paul because my dad isn't convinced of the "non-intervention" foreign policy.

He asks "what is he going to do if Iran gets nuclear weapons?" "What if they are giving those weapons to terrorists?"
Iran already hates us and it will take years and years before the relationship in the Middle East is better. In the meantime, they are trying to get weapons of mass destruction. What would Ron Paul do to prevent a catastrophe from happening?

And the Iran situation is a bit different than USSR. We don't want Iran to be a "super power" with nukes, do we?

How do I answer what many Americans fear?

Point out to your dad that the same was said of North Korea - if they got a nuke that Kim Il was actually crazy enough to use it. But notice how once N Korea got a nuke, we got a lot more - respectful - towards them?

I honestly think that many of the countries trying to get a nuke are doing it because that is the point that the US actually deals with them rather than bullying them. I am not saying that is the case with Iran, but I know you can't go pre-emptively nuclear striking someone because in 5 years they MIGHT have a nuclear bomb and they MIGHT use it against us.

ignorant and un-caring...

or lied to?

Definitely lied to, I was referring to the way the world percieves us. For years we put up with the lesser of two evils and the world thinks we must be ignorant of the fact that we have been lied to, or un-caring of the same fact (too obsessed with American Idol, etc.).

ISTM, This RP revolution is showing that the American Spirit is alive and well and they are rooting for us. I believe we are suprising and delighting the world.

I'm not sure about all that but it rings true, but wasn't Saddam essentially doing the same thing?

I did hear via a Ron Paul remark that Iran was officially only doing business in Euros and no longer accepting American dollars.

Iran will never be a super power. It may some day have nuclear weapons, but it will never be a super power. To be a super power you must possess economic strengh and military strength, those two things Iran will not have. Pakistan has nuclear weapons, are they a super power? no. If Iran got nuclear weapons it would be very unlikely that they would ever be able to hit us with them, because they would be a newly nuclear country without all the same technologies that we have. Even if they ever did launch nuclear war against us, they would be doomed, and I think that they know that.

Preemptive war has always been the strategy of our enemies and it has never been the American way to practice a preemptive strike.

Anyone let me know if I'm wrong about this...

What American is afraid?

Tell him death comes to all and quit trying to milk life out. For he death comes to him also and so does what comes after death. Tell your dad to find faith. For it is when death comes he shall not know it.

What Ron Paul would do with Iran....

FIRST: He is only Non-Interventionist in terms of randomly bombing people and things. He would be very involved with every country from the start. In regards to Iran he would Normalize Relations, Open a Consulate in Tehran, and Support Free Trade with Iranian Citizens. This would get us the HUMAN INTELLIGENCE we have been so greatly lacking since we adopted a TRUELY ISOLATIONIST policy by refusing to talk to them.

SECOND: He would end the useless "pro war" rhetoric against the Iranian government so they can no longer use it as an excuse to suppress the democracy movement in Iran. Every time we "talk tough" in terms of attacking Iran it scares the hell out of it's citizens, both the bad ones and good ones alike. There is a huge democracy movement in Iran, but they have to bury their heads every time we talk about attacking them.

THIRD: Iran is more and more ecoming a proxy of Russia... Putin will not allow them to do anything so rash as start a nuclear war with the US.. I garuntee it.

FOURTH: After 9/11 there were HUGE rallies in Tehran... SUPPORTING AMERICA. The Iranian people are not bad people for the most part, the are just scared as hell over what we are planning on doing to them.

Yes, those were Iranians coming out into the streets to pray for the people who died in the WTC.

Thanks all! Very helpful!

If you watched the debates this morning on ABC, you can see how tough it is to convince poeple that this current foreign policy is wrong and is bankrupting us.
8 out of 9 potential leaders of this country don't even get it.

A sad state of affairs indeed.:(
