How to market Ron Paul 101

Another thing I would add is KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. I'm in a very Republican state and I sometimes have to remind our more liberal meetup people about that. You aren't going to win over a republican in Kansas by attacking Bush and zeroing in on the anti-war stuff.

Now if you are talking to a left leaning crowd, that stuff works fine.

a great way to market RP is to drive in your car and go mail box to mail box and tape a flyer to the outside of it (agaisnt the law inside of it, so don't do that).

This way, the flyer gets inside someone's house, usually with a web site reference on it, where people can type in the web site and get more..... people are also most relaxed and available to read something inside their own home where they aren't distracted by outside events as much......

If you are interested in bringing Ron Paul to churches, I have made a custom christian flyer just for flyering church parking lots. PM me your email to get it.

It's a MS word doc. and it's powerful!

Some great advice on selling liberty (and by extension, Ron Paul), from two-time Libertarian presidential candidate Harry Browne:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=13226

1. I resolve to sell liberty by appealing to the self-interest of each prospect, rather than preaching to people and expecting them to suddenly adopt my ideas of right and wrong.

2. I resolve to keep from being drawn into arguments or debates. My purpose is to inspire people to want liberty -- not to prove that they're wrong.

3. I resolve to listen when people tell me of their wants and needs, so I can help them see how a free society will satisfy those needs.

4. I resolve to identify myself, when appropriate, with the social goals someone may seek -- a cleaner environment, more help for the poor, a less divisive society -- and try to show him that those goals can never be achieved by government, but will be well served in a free society.

5. I resolve to be compassionate and respectful of the beliefs and needs that lead people to seek government help. I don't have to approve of their subsidies or policies -- but if I don't acknowledge their needs, I have no hope of helping them find a better way to solve their problems.

6. No matter what the issue, I resolve to keep returning to the central point: how much better off the individual will be in a free society.

7. I resolve to acknowledge my good fortune in having been born an American. Any plan for improvement must begin with a recognition of the good things we have. To speak only of America's defects will make me a tiresome crank.

8. I resolve to focus on the ways America could be so much better with a very small government -- not to dwell on all the wrongs that exist today.

9. I resolve to cleanse myself of hate, resentment, and bitterness. Such things steal time and attention from the work that must be done.

10. I resolve to speak, dress, and act in a respectable manner. I may be the first Libertarian someone has encountered, and it's important that he get a good first impression. No one will hear the message if the messenger is unattractive.

11. I resolve to remind myself that someone's "stupid" opinion may be an opinion I once held. If I can grow, why can't I help him grow?

12. I resolve not to raise my voice in any discussion. In a shouting match, no one wins, no one changes his mind, and no one will be inspired to join our quest for a free society.

13. I resolve not to adopt the tactics of Republicans and Democrats. They use character assassination, evasions, and intimidation because they have no real benefits to offer Americans. We, on the other hand, are offering to set people free -- and so we can win simply by focusing on the better life our proposals will bring.

14. I resolve to be civil to my opponents, and treat them with respect. However anyone chooses to treat me, it's important that I be a better person than my enemies.

Thanksgiving Persuasion - way to increase support 5 or 10-fold

Most of us will be having Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Politics is usually taboo, so be polite and respectful. Don't argue. You don't win votes by arguing. You entrench people in their positions by arguing.

So here's my plan:

1. Choose slimjims that will appeal to each person. If they're a gun-person, give them a gun slimjim. If they're church-going Christian, print out Dr. Paul's statement of faith. Choose Republican or Democrat slimjim depending on your audience. Give them the slimjim after dinner and DON'T ARGUE.

2. Rules for persuasion:
a. be nice, polite, don't argue.
b. Fill their need (listen to what they want, then empathize). Don't give facts.
c. Recommend the candidate, and ask for their vote/support.
d. Say things that the person wants to hear (they're probably not involved in politics, don't care much about issues that you do [the Constitution, gold standard, NWO, ect.]. In other words, assume they're just an average Joe and don't know or care anything about politics. Speak in generalities, then tailor your message once you know how they stand. Ask what the 3 most important issues are to them individually, and address their need.

3. Subjects likely to come up
a. Oil/gas prices - talk about some economists think Oil would be $20 cheaper per barrel if we hadn't been in this mess in Iraq. Only one credible and consistent candidate who thinks its time to bring the troops home.
b. Healtcare - Dr. Paul is the only Doctor running, either Republican or Democrat.

Potential attacks:
1. "Ron Paul is crazy" - AGREE WITH THE PERSON! "Yes, he's a nut. Anyone who would opt out of lucrative Congressional Pension plan has got to be crazy. If I were in Congress, I would have taken advantage of the taxpayer and got the Congressional Pension. And Dr. Paul has never taken a taxpayer-paid congressional junket. His wife must think he's crazy too, and kick him, for not taking advantage of this like other members of congress do."

2. "___ is the most conservative candidate. " Yes, ____ is a conservative candidate, and I'm glad he's in the race. I'm just really glad that Dr. Paul never voted for pabortion funding[. Didn't _____ vote for [abortion funding] one time. This is where you need to know your facts about the other candidates.

3. "_____ has the only chance of winning." - Ron Paul is trading at 9% on intrade, a prediction market, and has better odds of winning than Fred Thompson and John McCain according to Vegas oddsmakers. And he is going up in the polls dramatically and the other candidates are going down. Plus, he raised a record $4.3 million in 24 hours. That's $3000 per minute.

4. "Ron Paul wants to desert our troops." Do you honestly think that a man who served his country in the Air Force, treated injured soldiers fighting for our country and freedoms in Congress for 30 years really wants to desert our troops? Ron Paul loves his military brothers, and is working to save their lives. He has also received more donations from the military than any other candidate

5. "Ron Paul blamed us for 9-11"
a. What Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida did was evil and reprehensible and they are totally responsible. They should be caught and punished to the full extent of the law.
b. Ron Paul believes 100% in a strong national defense
c. Ron Paul also believes we can better defend our country by securing our borders here than securing Iraq's borders.

Things to avoid talking about (generally) - 9/11 truth, NWO, bilderburgers, gold standard,

Things to suggest if they're traditional Republican
1. Consistent Record
2. Traditional Republican Foreign Policy ( no nation building, no policing the world, running on the foreign policy that GWB had when he won the Presidency.)
3. Fiscal Conservative
4. Pro-life

Things to suggest if they're Democrat/Independent
1. Only candidate to bring the troops home (Hillary and Dems want to keep troops in Iraq indefinitely); good judgment to vote against Iraq War
2. Statements to differentiate Dr. Paul from Bush
3. Strong on Health Care, education, Habeus Corpus, 1st amendment

Even better yet, bring your laptop and show them one of these videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG2PUZoukfA "A New Hope"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peBGJwE9NXo - Reagan Debate clips

If they like Dr. Paul, tell them about Dec. 16 and ask them to donate $10 or $20 or more today or on Dec. 16. Get their email address and follow up! And ask for their vote!

Empowering Ron Paul Supporters

I've read through a lot of this topic as well as the topic about our needing many, many Pro Ron Paul delegates in the Republican Party.

The way I see it is that it's going to require people with enough time and enough money to do all the things that are necessary.

The way we've used the power of the Internet to get the word out about Ron Paul, we need to also use this power to EMPOWER ourselves!

The best way I see that is available for us to do this is by our NETWORKING together, (as many who are able) to each become Online Affiliate Marketers of DOMAIN NAMES whereby we are PAID.

We can RALLY by each creating a DOMAIN NAME that points to our being behind Ron Paul all the way and encouraging one another to do this as well as bring in more and more Ron Paul supporters to do this. By doing so we can each generate the revenues to conduct the business of campaigning, becoming delegates, attending the State and National Republican Conventions and getting Ron Paul nominated.

Please see the information I've linked to about this in my signature.

You know what the secret is to selling anything to anyone?

EMPATHY.

You absolutely *MUST* get into the HEART of your friend, prospect, customer, whomever you are speaking to, and FEEL WHAT THEY FEEL.

Shut down your own mind and load up theirs. Keats, the Poet, talks about this regularly, as do Multi-million dollar entrepreneurs like Eben Pagan of GetAltitude.com ($20million), John Carlton of MarketingRebel.com ($700million), Perry Marshal of Perrymarshall.com ($50million+), and the list goes on.

Practice doing this.

Shut down your own biases.

Emulating the perspective and emotions of the person you are speaking to through imagination.

Then From that perspective, once you "get it", you can proceed to educate them about ron paul and they will listen VERY intently. It's magical.

By the way it would help you to know that i've paid thousands of dollars to get this information from REAL BUSINESS PEOPLE WHO CAN SELL SAND TO CAMELS, NOT MARKETING PROFESSORS, and I will be making much more than that in the coming months in order to donate it to Ron Paul.

Bottom Line. YOU HAVE GOT TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE ON A DEEP EMOTIONAL LEVEL. You simply MUST. Or all is lost.

Once you do, explain to them from a loving emotional level how Ron Paul fills THEIR biggest need. Take as much time as is needed to accomplish this.

Then you won't have to hard close (which fails nowadays anyways), you'll just give a call to action (well hey, visit teaparty07.com and make a short donation. Glad to have you along! Let's help each other out....)

This is the core of any great sale, and it is what creates 80%-1000% conversion rates (no joke!)

Why do you think people vote the way that they do?

They may logically RATIONALIZE that they vote for X candidate due to Y issue, but underneath that there is an emotional need that the person believes this candidate will meet.

This is also why, especially politically, people tend to lump into groups. They want to feel understood. This is the deepest human need, and the deepest level of IRRESISTIBLE human connection.

Why does oprah vote for obama? Is it really his position? Nope. "He's a smart successful black man so he'll understand me" is the core rationale. Its not racist, and its not logical, but it is the underlying feeling of it all.

Why does baby boomer nascar dad think mitt romney might be a good candidate?

Why Does the martha-stewart-loving soccer mom like hillary?

What do moms want for their children?

What do blacks want for their race and their own rights?

What do gays want for their civil rights?

What do dads want for their economy and their families?

TO BE EXACT, WHAT DOES THE INDIVIDUAL YOU ARE SPEAKING TO DESPERATELY NEED? HOW WILL RON PAUL FILL THAT NEED?

Answer that from a loving, emotionally honest position of REAL EMPATHY, and the SALE IS MADE.

Point is, how does the candidate SEEM to FILL AN EMOTIONAL NEED for THE PARTICULAR INDIVIDUAL?

In what way does the individual you are speaking to feel understood? How CAN you help them feel understood, and that ron paul understands THEM and will meet THEIR CORE NEED?

And on that note, I DO wish to thank everyone who posts in this thread and is making a real effort to understand what it will really take to convert supporters.

This is so deeply critical in these trying days that we all face.

So in one sentence, what can YOU do RIGHT NOW to cultivate EMPATHY in YOURSELF?

What can you do to use the information I have just given you?

Go.

Rock and Roll Guys.

Good Thread.

This is a great idea. Combined with the argument from morality, it is literally impenetrable. Nice post.

A couple of ad ideas

Hi everybody,

I am new here, and I did read through a lot of these topics, but not all, so please don't be too harsh if I repeat somebody else's ideas.

1. I think maybe we should somehow get to the people who are flying around and have some spare time to read/watch an extended version of regular ads. People on a plane is a captive audience, so if we could somehow get a thicker brochure in those magazine pockets of airplane seats, people could actually read them through and familiarize themselves with Dr. Paul's stance on many issues. They also show commercials on airplanes, we could buy a short commercial and prompt passengers to check out the brochures. It's a captive audience... We could target flights to specific destinations like early primary states, if it's cheaper.

2. How did most of us get to know Dr. Paul? Through the internet. As far as I know, Internet is the only way to get enough information to make an opinion. 30-second TV or radio ads can't convey the entire powerful message, also they do go a long way for name recognition. Buttons/banners/t-shirts/bumper stickers saying "Ron Paul 2008" do even less: they just tell people that I am a supporter of a candidate. So I thought, there should be more emphasis on directing people to Internet, to find out more. "Google Ron Paul" is a great example of that, but you can't even buy a bumper sticker like that from the official website.
