How to be good wife in 1955

They are more expensive in the short term, but turn out to be less expensive in the long term.... so I've been told :p;)

You just had to take over the 'worst post of the thread' title, didn't you?

Better you should have tried for the funniest.

Love when my people insist "It was better back then." "Those were the good ol' days." They certainly were not. I wasn't there, but this kind of ridiculousness outright shows how shitty the times were. Nevermind the fact that people were still strongly suppressing blacks and minorities. There was no internet, the stronghold of this whole movement, and there was no cell phones. Refrigerators were scarce and microwaves were only invented about 15 years before. By no means is today some great place. All the evil is just behind the curtain ready to spill out, but civilization wise (you know what I mean), we are doing MUCH better. Be happy to be alive now.

Nonetheless, I can only pray that i would have a wife like that. A mindless robot who does everything I tell her to and who doesn't argue. Come to think of it...I'd rather not.

The internet has aided people now only because we have become so isolated due to our breakdown of close knit communites. We are now living a 24-7 lifestyle where sleep is a premium, that is NOT an improvement!!! However thanks to modern conveniences there is no such need for silly things such as having coffee with the neighbor since I can leave some faceless message which will oftentimes lead to someone jumping to the wrong conclusion and ripping me a new...well you get the picture!!! Case in point see the first page of this thread for how long it took someone to jump someone else because they were not face to face...

Furthermore, refridgerators were not scarce then, but just exactly what is the improvement from having fresh food in that regards? Just because we have the convenience of keeping goods cold we can now import foods over long distances allowing us to support foreign countries who may not have the most sanitary standards. Not to mention putting those within our community out of a job as we import from the lowest wage source possible. Also it allows any number of pathogens to infect our food stuffs in transit.

And the microwave??? This is an improvement how? The fact that one can have a food item that has been frozen for an indefinate period filled with a large number of preservatives radiated in a minimal amount of time with no forethought or affection from the distributing entity (also known as the cook). When was the last time you had a good homecooked meal by someone who put their time and effort towards rewarding you with its enjoyment?

The only thing I might agree with you on is the race relations matter, but you would be a fool to think there is much improvement. We are very much so just one incident away from chaos to this day. The major improvement however would be in regards to segregation, which now sadly only exists subtly by choice rather than decree.

It's crazy how much social norms can change in just 54 years. I think I was born about 54 years too late. ;)

Opinions?

How is this different?

This is almost to the letter how my home is.
