My guess is the winner will be selected after the march and the count is in. But how will you determine the official count?

Actually, there is a formula for this:

organizer's estimate minus police estimate divided by media coverage (zero)

then you add up all the characters on the BSOD and multiply by the speed of light squared.

Honestly

I agree with the guy giving lower turn out forecasts but not his sentiment. Just basing my numbers on some of the things I've seen around and the lack of even a mention of it (besides mine) in my area's meetup group I'd say its trajectory is the low thousands. But that's if the sail doesn't fill between now and then. I think it has a lot of potential. Just like the first money bomb it could really balloon. I'm personally going to attend. If there's anyone here who requires complete confidence that the numbers will be huge before they'll attend then it will be the fault of themselves and those like them for not taking the responsibility to attend purely for the sake of principle and need for action. I have a feeling there are a lot of people out there waiting to jump on the band wagon if it looks like it will be massive, but not willing to committ without that assurance.

People just need to committ. Buy the plane tickets from Virgin America - cheapest I've found.... Then place a bid on priceline for a room for whatever you can afford in the downtown dc area.

I'm going to DC at the end of this month and am paying $120 for a 4 star hotel in Dupont circle. Then I'm going back to DC again for the weekend of July 12th.
