How many friends have you lost?

I'm not quite liberal, not quite "conservative" (at least to current standards), and I've lost about 6 people who were semi-close to me because of it. I don't regret it, I'm not crying about anything, and the most important people in my life still love me and are still here, but I'm just curious as to how many people are gone and how many people you've gained because of your political views.

And yeah, I know it's a lame, emo question. I'm okay with that.
 
I have one best friend that I have known for 12 years.. thats it... and he's on board.
 
who's hardwork? get a life. the people who's wealth you're defending mostly are down to contribute more. You've really crossed line. I dont see how its Obama's or the liberals fault taht the Mormon church let you down but now everything and evryone is a conspiracy and private business has all the answers ect ect to the point taht you're willing to alienate your friends even after they try to nicely tell you to lay off!

I don't have many friends these days. All my friends are people I've met through my political action.
 
Most of my longtime friends are liberals but that's kind of misleading because I didn't have many friends to begin with. I have lots of acquaintances and the few that I consider true friends agree with me on a lot of things. They just ignore the stuff they don't agree with because they love me.

I've made new friends since becoming politically active and they are not just in my camp politically but really goodhearted people who will probably be my friends for life.
 
Well, I've been consistent enough that I haven't, really. Anyone who would be alienated by a love of liberty wasn't my friend to begin with. And if I did, well--I'm quite sure I'd trade a dozen of them for one Amy!
 
Why do libertarians have to isolate themselves so much? No wonder our movement doesn't grow faster.

What do you mean you've lost 6 friends? You can't be friends with people who don't agree with your political views?

Since waking up and getting more politically active, I've shared my thoughts with my friends and most of them disagree, but I don't force it on them and don't see why we couldn't be friends anymore. Maybe eventually they'll ask me some questions and come around to my way of thinking. If not, oh well.

I can count my true friends on the fingers of one hand.

And all of them are "onboard".

Not all do. I don't, and tend to get more respect for being principled. :cool:
 
If you're losing friends for your political views, then you're either hang around with a bunch of Marx worshipers or you're not being respectful with your discussions. I'm always talking about politics with my politically apathetic friends, but I certainly don't rub it in their face or be obnoxious about it.
 
I always find common ground with my more socialist friends. One guy at work, for instance, Is a total obama-bot. But he hates the republican party and enjoys weed as much as i do. So we share that cause. Once he realizes the marjiuana thing and personal liberty and everything else falls togather I think he will come around... I just nudge my freinds in a more subtle way than most of you guys.
 
I haven't lost friends over my views... my friends and I usually agree in the spirit of most things if not exactly how we would go about implementing it but we are respectful of each others views.

Some acquaintances I don't talk politics with... they have no interest at all at what goes on or they are swimming in the kool aid.

Well to be fair the quote I posted was by someone who publicly posts on local news messageboards in my town about tea partiers and anti-healthcare reform advocates being racist, uninformed and paranoid, then lumps that in all with believing in the small government ideology.. I am generally not inflammatory and articulate my positions well, but after articulating to him that we don't have a free market 50 times, and then hearing the argument back from him that my free market system is causing the problems, it gets a bit frustrating. He's about as liberal as it gets, and he thinks he's so anti-establishment yet he falls for every single one of their tricks. He's a pretty smart guy, too, and I know the TV is on in his house all day, and it's turned onto the news.. and apparently it isn't him that has it on, but it's right by his desk so he hears it all day and man that guy is a total msm zombie.

I stopped talking to my friends about politics. They think "greedy" corporations are the reason for the bad economy and the only solution is more government "regulation". I tried to explain over and over that those same corporations control the government, and that any additional power granted to the government will be used by those corporations to futher enrich themselves and crush their competition, at the expense of the American people. I think it's a very simple concept but it seems to go right over their heads.

Yep, I've articulated this position so many times, and I showed them a movie about Monsanto called "The Future of Food" and they freaked out and thought it was horrible..yet still can't understand the concept of why I don't want the federal government deciding on how to spend my money because they do evil things with it and we'd be better off if they were only able to have a military and a court system to protect against fraud, theft and injury.

I honestly think that watching news on TV kills part of your brain or something.
