How do we convert people?

:D I mean seriously... I've talked to so many people who just don't want to believe Ron Paul and the liberty movement's message. It's like people actually think that a belief in Mitt Romney or Barack Obama is rational. They will then go on to justify their belief by pitting their positions against their said opponent candidate, without even considering the real issues like the federal reserve, the ceaseless warmongering, and the statist country we are becoming.

How do you guys get through to mainstream repubs and dems?

"I" (not we) try to plant seeds of logic..........

If they fall on infertile ground, oh-well I tried..

Ron's youtubes are pretty great. You have to know your audience though. What are their main issues?

This is a good one for establishing his credibility:

Here is a good one overall (which is why even this single version of it has over 2 million views):

Here is a good one done during the campaign but it is a little longer:

And here is a great one, one of many, along the lines of it's just fun to be on the right side, with a song that was written for him:

or for the same song to the antiwar:

And this one is a short teaser:

I think if you're talking to people who follow politics and are somewhat informed about what's going, don't try to convince them using names like Ron Paul, Romney, or Obama. Just stick to the issues. Find areas where you agree first then expand on that. Don't start off arguing with people because when you start with disagreements, it leads people to think that whatever you're saying is wrong.

If you want to see examples of how to slowly convince mainstream Republicans, listen to speeches Rand gives. He doesn't try to turn Republicans to Libertarians in one speech. He'll routinely gets applauses for issues that are commonsense but most Republican politicians don't agree with us on, like bringing our troops home from Afghanistan, stopping foreign aid, and spending money here at home rather than increasing our military budget.

Here's a good video of a recent speech he gave.

Both liberals and neoconservatives genuinely think they are voting the "right" way morally. Obama supporters think they are choosing the guy that will help social equality and the poor, Romney supporters feel like their guy will protect and defend "American values" and America itself from attack. I think that tailoring how you choose to show how the liberty movement is the moral way to ensure equality through individualism and how defending the constitution can preserve America.

We have a great advantage because the federated constitutional system is on our side. I think by focusing on differentiating between the federal level and local makes most people satisfied. You can appeal to individuals by pointing out that if the DC is kept strictly constitutional then the states have more leeway do conform to the will of the local populous. California has different values than Utah. If dc is just a basic framework to proect our liberty then the states can try and experiment with ideas that other states might not see as fair, marijuana prohibition, helmet laws or whatever. Also things like education dictated frm DC is essentially a government backed monopoly and most people agree that monopolies are unfair and inefficient. Having each of the 50 states try their own systems allows for competition and some may not work out that well but you learn from the other states.

The bottom line thoug is that the law (constitution) is on our side.

Agitate, always when the state fails point it out. It happens everyday. Don't call people names like statist. Just show people what is painfully obvious. Governments never receed unless they are destroyed.

Wow thanks for all the replies. This is really a lot of help because I can be very ungraceful in my approach, and I'm quite new to this view myself.

Thanks also for the awesome post with the videos, I am still working through it.

Find out what their main issue is and then agree with them that it IS a problem. Then slowly work them towards a more sound solution. Once you have opened one door, many are to follow. And once they're awoken, teach them how to do it to someone else.

We lost this round, we are in education mode now for the next round.

It's general election fever. Don't expect people to think outside the box around this time. Plant the seeds for them to ponder when they're ready. Tell them what they can anticipate and let them experience it.

I just tell them right off the bat that Romney and Obama are identical, they are both liberals, Romney just lies more. If Romney flip-flopping videos don't convince them that Romney is a liar, and if videos showing the way the RNC treated Ron Paul supporters don't work, then I give up on them and consider them a lost cause. I can't stand arrogant ignorant people, and people that refuse to see the truth in front of their eyes, well, there is no hope for such people, talk to different people.

If we can't expect some people to use the brain God gave them to decide things on their own, then the chances of them ever joining the liberty movement is about nil, election or no election.

People are just in another mode during this time. Its like sports playoff season.

Like I said before, plant the seeds for them to ponder when they're ready. For a full conversion to the ideas of liberty, the person must get there on their on path.

I agree. What is good about now is they are paying a little attention and may remember what you say, but most of them have their minds made up and are agitating for one candidate or other.

Carry a copy of your constitution and bill of rights and ask them to point out where undeclared war,the NDAA,drug prohibition etc are to be found?

You'll not convert them through reason and logic. Humans need some sort of cattle prod to get them in line.

Find your cattle prod.

I agree for some people, but people also need reason to hope it can change. That is where Ron galvanized people. He destroyed the apathy of those who thought there was no use, by showing them people should raise their standards, and fight for them.
