Homosexuality is not a choice (most of the time). It is not a disease either. I think it is a genetic issue. I don't think it is wrong...

How very factual of you. I suppose that obesity, alcoholism, drug addiction, and pedophilia are not choices either.

If I was gay, I think Id rather think of it as a choice, instead of thinking of myself as a victim of genetics or my mother.

'wrong' is a morality call. Im not sure it has anything to do with the question of 'choice'.

Some heteros experiment with homosexual acts and decide they like it better, I suppose.

Then they are naturally gay or bi if they prefer sex with the same gender.

I am straight and there is no way I would ever have sex with the same gender. The thought disgusts me, same for other straight people. If the thought intrigues someone, then they are either bi or gay naturally.

I think if someone is gay, then they were born gay.

This thread seriously reminded me of the LGBT Democrats debate, and how Richardson thought being gay was a choice, and got confronted by one of the gay moderators.

We can argue how the fetish came about, maybe its mommy, maybe its genes, maybe its that your first sexual experience was in Buster Browns....

But the person with the foot fetish still chooses wether or not to make love to a shoe...

But they do not choose their attraction to feet. It is natural.

Same with gay people. They do not choose their attraction to the same gender. Yes they choose to do gay sexual acts, but they did not choose for themselves to be gay as in being attracted to the same gender. There is a difference.

Well you don't usually "choose" to be obese - but becoming obese is partly due to both eating choices and genetic predispositions. As for alcoholism and drug addiction - using alcohol and drugs is a choice, but genetics can make you more likely to develop an addiction. I believe pedophilia is not a choice and neither is homosexuality. However, homosexual acts can be consensual while adult-kid sex acts (lawfully, at least) cannot be.

One word. Prison.

Actually another word. Sparta.

If your theory holds true, then roughly 1/3 of all humans are bisexual.

Obviously there is a difference, and I think I qualified my answer in that regard.

The end result is up to each person. Perhaps they cant avoid 'FEELING' gay, but they can certainly avoid ACTING gay.

I think prison rape is usually a matter of dominance, not sexual attraction.

Oh, well yeah. Obviously.

Im not sure you are making a distinction that is based on rational thinking.

You agree that obesity, alcoholism, etc... have genetic components and choice components... but then you BELIEVE that sexual decisions arent choices...

its all about the pleasure drive. Certain humans have had theirs redirected, perhaps they didnt choose the redirection, but they ALL choose to act on it or not.

By homosexuality I mean sexual attraction to members of the same sex. I agree with you that homosexual acts are choices.

This thread needs some more balance. Maybe we should ask a gay Ron Paul supporter. Wait a second, that's weird. I don't think I've ever come across a gay Ron Paul supporter. HEY GAY RON PAUL SUPPORTERS! TELL US IF YOU THINK HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE OR NOT!

Primarily, no....it is not a choice. Environment is secondary. Watch this very interesting and informative video on the brain's limbic system. It's long, but well worth it. Most of the video is not about homosexuality, but in order to understand this topic, you should really learn how the brain works. The way the brain works is fascisnating. You should also have a firm grasp of how the endocrine system works as well. For instance, is it a choice for a man to have higher estrogen levels? Does this play a role in sexual behavior?

There is no hard scientific (genetic/morphological) evidence that supports homosexuality being an inborn, permanent state. The history of traditional psychiatric studies of homosexuality (prior ro the political voice vote at the 1973 APA convention to cease categorizing it as a disorder) is replete with documented cases of reversals of the behavior and its 'orientation.'

There are abnormal endocrine systems, but this is explainable as a byproduct of behaviorial, traumatic or environmental history (that is, the background creates the biology). For example, if you go on powerful drugs, they may induce acute organic damage or changes. The current existence of the abnormal physiology does not prove a genetic basis for it being the initial state, nor does greater genetic inclination prove innate status.

The purpose behind the infowar to declare homosexuality an inborn condition, was and is to diffuse the moral issue of the behavior as a choice. Advocates simply have repositioned the subject to create a presumption of neutrality for the act, instead of rationally proving anything. It is sad that even many on RPF have been taken in, if the poll is any indication.
