As long as he is a counter-weight to Rubio, I'll be happy with Rand. I think Rand and Rubio exemplify the split within the GOP among the younger generation of elected officials in Congress. I think Rubio is establishment hawk and he is not tea-partier. All I had to see was Rubio at RJC where he was just talking about Isreal etc...and I knew he was a sell out.

Rand is the real deal. He's only been in Congress for a year. He opposed the Patriot Act, Debt Ceiling increase, and the intervention in Libya..all positive trends. My only concern is on energy, I think Rand criticised Obama on the Keystone Pipeline. I don't support that one bit.

Rand Paul is a much better speaker than Ron. As much as I hate the idea of somebody's appearance affecting their "electability," Rand is young, good looking guy. When he speaks he has much more passion in his voice. I think he connects with people very well. Ron Paul is an intellectual powerhouse and probably the most consistent congressman ever, but a lot of (stupid) people vote based on things that really don't matter (looks, tone of voice, overall personality)

A conversation I had this weekend with an older woman (who was a stranger to me)

Woman: I like Ron Paul, but I just can't get past that foreign policy.
Me: Oh? You don't like a strong foreign policy?
Woman: Well, I do, but I don't think that's what he's offering
Me (picking up campaign literature on 'Restore America Plan' & 'Strong.Secure.Respected'): I hope you would take a look at this. There's a lot off bad information out there, but actually Ron Paul is offering a strong & wise foreign policy that our founders and even George Bush advised. His budget plan cuts $1 Trillion without cutting one cent from seniors, veterans, or national defense.
Woman (refusing to take the literature from my hand): I've heard & read all I need to know about Ron Paul, and his foreign policy is dangerous. But, you know, I wouldn't mind seeing his son, Rand Paul, run; I really do like him.
Me (confused): But Rand Paul has the same foreign policy as Ron Paul.?...
Woman: Yeah, but he's a little more polished, and presents himself better.
Me: Oh. So you don't have a problem with Ron Paul's foreign policy, you just have a problem with his appearance. (dissapointed) That's terrible.
Woman: Now, I didn't mean it that way...
Me: I don't know how else to take it...(shrugging), I wish you'd reconsider, because it sounds like you're letting the liberal media influence your pick. I would hate for that to happen.
Woman: Well, I'm not going to vote for Ron Paul. walks away

Rand is great. I remember he proposed a 5 year balance the budget plan. His "purity" isn't an issue, he simply does a better job of divorcing ideological idealism and legislative reality than his father. I love his father, but this movement is about bringing together a lot of people from every corner of the libertarian quadrent of the political spectrum - there is no "purer" portion of that spectrum, no better or worse. We're all individuals, and we are all going to compromise regardless of the chosen candidate.

I feel that Rand has curly hair and standing next to Ron he is actually smaller(is that even possible?).

"I shall call him....Mini Me."

I like how one of the poll choices was "Luv him!" L-U-V

That made me laugh. :D

Rand Paul is certainly a better politician. Ron Paul himself said as much. Ron Paul is more pure on foreign policy. Domestically, they're basically the same; though Rand Paul's stance on earmarks would be better for the Republican electorate.

Hopefully the non-incumbent GOP presidential primary field will be as weak as it was this year again in 2016.

If everyone took Ron Paul's stance on earmarks, there would be no earmarks.

Frankly, I wish that Rand was better on the war issue and the drug issue. But I'm still happy to support any Rand Paul's and Mike Lee's that will beat some of these establishment Republicans.

Why shouldn't Rand support a free market in energy?

The Keystone Pipeline is about using eminent domain to take private land to benefit private companies for completely unnecessary stuff. It may create some jobs and reduce the cost of some energy in at least part of the US, but it isn't a free market solution.
