How do I become a delegate in TX?

None of our business. The point is to become a delegate, and become a chairperson if you can, and above all else be sure to vote and go to the precinct meetings.

He's done a lot for the campaign, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He could just be confused about the facts, he has been very busy. Let's not throw one of the most hardcore supporters under a bus.

But anyways, back to the subject at hand:

Here is the info as best I understand it:

1) Vote.

2) While at the polling station, ask where the precinct caucus / meeting will be held and when. Most likely it will be at the polling station after polls close.

3) Attend, and get your fellow RP supporters in your precinct to go as well (if they voted).

All 3 steps happen on the same day - primary day!

Remember, the more of us there, the higher chance we get of being all the delegates. If we can get over 50% attendance we can shut them out!

Bonus info: Becoming a precinct chairman

As soon as possible (like now!) call your county gop and ask if there is an opening in your precinct. If not, you still might be offered some other role. This is important, this helps make sure we don't get screwed.

I live in Chambers County, but I am interested in voting in the primaries as well. The County primaries we have only allow you to vote for 1 person or one party.

If I can turn out and vote and help when Texas comes I would be proud to. Being on a limited income I have donated and I am spreading the word as much as possible in my area.

Any vote I can give I am more than willing to. Got two voters in the house and I would be happy to bring more.

PM me any information you have on what I can do voting wise in my own state.

Texas Delegate Strategy

Each precinct has a different # of delegates, based of voter turnout in the previous election. Find out how many delegates your precinct has.

Go to the delegate election (see previous posts) with a list of names of Ron Paul supporters who voted in the primary who live in that precinct to fill the delegate positions and alternate positions.

You can also fill the slate with names of people you know will not show up for the state convention - the delegates at the state convention have their voting power divided proportionally if there are absenses.

Example - My precinct has 10 delegate slots. 5 delegates show up at the state convention to vote on state delegates to the national convention. Each delegate now has a vote of 2 delegates so that the precinct is still fully represented.

Make sure you have enough Ron Paul supporters at the delegate election to win a majority. If you do not do the groundwork for this and come up short either

a) befriend anti-mccain supporters to gain a majority
b) disguise your ron paul support and ask the majority if you can be on the slate, or an alternate, as you are a concerned citizen representing conservative values.

Try to be the first one at the election so you can become the chairman. The importance of chariman is you can decide how the vote is conducted (hand raising, verbal yea or nay)

-------------

You can be most effective by canvassing your precinct to determine Ron Paul support and amassing a hoard to ensure precinct delegate election dominance. It takes work, but that is the essense of a grass roots campaign.

So, when at the meeting...voting on Delegates...do we or do we not declare ourselves as Ron Paul supporters? I've read in several places that it may be advisable to just support conservative values as JR from Texas stated above. We are not required to declare Rep or Dem on our voters reg to vote in the Primary, correct?
And I was told that in order to become eligable for Pricinct Chair, voter has to have been registered in the precinct for at least 6 months.

I'm not planning on disguising my support, per se, but concentrating on the message instead of the candidate. I'm going to say that I'm a concerned citizen who believes in the whole Constitution, that I'm pro-life, pro-property rights, against taxes and the welfare state, and against nation-building and foreign aid. If they vote me down based on this, I wouldn't represent them well anyway.

Gotcats - 1) If you have a majority of attendees that you know to be RP supporters (takes effort, planning, coordination), then go ahead and declare your support - you've won the vote anyway.

If you do not have the vote in the bag, then you may want to consider presenting your slate as one that is dedicated to preserving core conservative values in the white house, trying to get uncommitted attendees to vote for you.

If you are all by yourself, try to identify who is going to win the election and try to get on their slate as a delegate or alternate. Stroke the ego (if its mccain, talk about how you want to beat hillary/obama, if its huckabee, talk about how mccain isn't a real republican).

The important thing to remember is that we need to get as many RP supporters at the state convention as possible. If McCain takes less than 50% of the primary vote, then we can rack up some RNC delegates for Paul!

2) You do not declare yourself repub or democrat. Instead, that is decided by which party you vote for in the primary. Make sure to get your registration card stamped when you vote in the primary so at the delegate vote you are viewed as legit.

3) I believe precinct chair is decided by who gets the rule packet at the delegate vote (who shows up first). No other restrictions.

I'm going to assume McCain will take more than 20% and that Huckabee will get more votes than Ron Paul, which means RP won't get any initial delegates.

The strategies I've discussed rely upon a brokered convention at the RNC and capitalize on filling the "actual person who votes" slot with a RP supporter in preparation for that event.

If a brokered convention doesn't happen, the plans wont work.

How do we find out how many deligates we have for our precinct? I haven't been able to find any election results from 2006.

Determining Delegates

You can get a report from your County voter registrar that will help you (in Galveston Co. it is called the Canvass Report - should be the same statewide). You want the report for the Special & General Election on 11/7/06. It should list all the precincts in your county and the # of votes for each of the candidates for Governor. Your only going to use the Perry column. Each precinct will get 1 delegate and 1 alternate for every 25 votes cast for PERRY. Each precinct will have at least 1 delegate and 1 alternate (you may find that a precinct had less than 25 votes for Perry). We were able to get the Galveston County file e-mailed free of charge - your county may charge a fee.
