How can we privatize marriage?

Any ideas to draft a bill to get the government out of marriage?

effectively it would mean abolishing all privileges for married couples, it could also mean getting rid of any parental or spousal obligations (alimony, child support, inheritance...etc). people would be free to enter into any contracts they like, but it would not be "by default" protected and sanctioned by government, not sure how many Americans are willing to go for that.

well, this may not be a popular option, but I've always tried to convince gay people you're better off not begging the state the right to be married - it's a good introduction to libertarian principles. usually they are receptive

I would be against marriage, instead just form civil unions which does not give tax breaks (unless the state wants it), but also give in case of divorce child support..etc..
