The UK Telegraph said:
When did atheists become so teeth-gratingly annoying? Surely non-believers in God weren't always the colossal pains in the collective backside that they are today? Surely there was a time when you could say to someone "I am an atheist" without them instantly assuming you were a smug, self-righteous loather of dumb hicks given to making pseudo-clever statements like, "Well, Leviticus also frowns upon having unkempt hair, did you know that?" Things are now so bad that I tend to keep my atheism to myself, and instead mumble something about being a very lapsed Catholic if I'm put on the spot, for fear that uttering the A-word will make people think I'm a Dawkins drone with a mammoth superiority complex and a hives-like allergy to nurses wearing crucifixes.

Awwwww...
Let the atheists have their fun. Someday, when the christians are in charge again, they'll execute heretics like in the good 'ol days. Nothing says "god loves you" like being burned alive!

I most of them are polite in person with believers, but let off steam around other Athiests especially at conventions and speeches. Of course, this material finds it's way on to YouTube and freaks out the believers.

Oddly enough, from what I've Dan Barker occasionally plays at being a smartass. He is a former Minister who now helps run a Freedom From Religion group.

I think he is still coming to terms with dumping his Faith and feeling a new kind of mental freedom.

Just a Passing Contemplation

I've always found it funny but strange how atheists are the only group of people who define themselves by a Person in Whom they claim that they don't believe in. As a Christian, I don't believe in the existence of fairies (as an example), but I would never call myself an "Afaririst." Yet, atheists make it a point to publish to people that they don't believe in God by their own ideological label as "atheists."

I see there are threads on this forum discussing Anarchy. Isn't that fairly similar?

It would only be similar if everyone on this board was forced to fund Christianity at gunpoint, regularly questioned as to their anti-Christian activities, and put in a rape cage or executed for standing up to agents of the church.

Whether you guys want to admit it or not, this has only really been the case in limited situations in the last 2000 years.

The ability of atheists to speak frankly without getting punished or killed is a relatively new freedom. They aren't any more smug than the preachers that come on my property and knock on my door then tell me I'm going to hell if I disagree with them. This actually happens. Atheists don't usually act as smug and rude as that.

Haha...when did this happen? I don't believe you for a host of reasons.

I guess it's blowback, but you'd think that the industrial scale socialist genocides of the 20th century would be enough revenge at this point. I myself am basically an atheist, but I absolutely despise turbo-atheists. Most useless bunch of people around.

But Sola-Fide and Erowe are the most smug bastards that I have ever seen online

Sola_Fide is essentially an atheist. He worships his own brain, his pride, and his faulty interpretation of the Christian Bible instead of God.

Erowe is one of the most knowledgable posters here, even if I don't agree with him often, me is never smug nor do I believe he is a bastard.

True, even when I was an atheist/agnostic I never bothered with doing that, I usually just kept my beliefs to myself and no one bothered me. I never understood the point of wasting parts of my life arguing about something that I didn't believe existed and never really affected me. Didn't appeal to me at all.

I've never seen any of that from Erowe. Sola_Fide is sometimes more combative than I would be, but at least he has a brain, and that's more than I can say for you.

You won't find a professing Christian that annoys me halfway as much as a raving anti-theist.

On average it happens 3 or 4 times a year at my house. Of course they only say I'm going to hell if I'm willing to engage them in discussion and at this point I'm no longer willing to do so. I just yell at them to get off my property.

Has an atheist ever knocked on your door to spread his or her beliefs?
