What is the progress?

Is everyone getting double the signatures needed as is recommended?

It's my understanding that HQ has not even sent the petitions out to be circulated yet. Being from Ohio, this is getting a bit frustrating. They say we have until the 27th to get the petitions signed and returned, yet we still do not have the petitions in our possession.

I haven't seen them either.

However, I did just get some canvassing material, and will be going out this weekend.:)

Seriously? We need to get this show on the road. I can grab quite a few signatures myself I just need petitions.

Delegates were just notified that they had been elected yesterday evening. I believe that petitions will be in our hands early next week. Here's the e-mail sent to the selected delegates:

Good Evening Everyone,

Congratulations! This memo is to notify you that you have been selected as a delegate, alternate delegate, at large delegate or at large alternate delegate for Ron Paul at the Republican National Convention.

Please read this message carefully and follow all the instructions.

First, you will be receiving your petition in the mail or someone will be contacting you personally with your petition to sign as a delegate.

Second, you will sign the petition in the designated area as a delegate. You will then be asked to personally take it to the next delegate on the list or mail it to the next delegate on the list. If the person is relatively close to you, please make arrangements to take it to them personally. If the person is a farther distance, please mail it to them the same day you receive it and sign it.

Third, this petition, when all signatures are present on the petition, will be IMMEDIATELY returned to the Ohio Coordinator, Doug Joseph. All mailing addresses will be included with the petition.

All delegates must sign their petition in their own handwriting and all petitions must then be confirmed with the Ohio Coordinator. This petition is NOT for circulation. When the petition is received by the Ohio Coordinator, he will confirm your signature and he will make copies to send out to all the petition circulators, including you.

In the event you no longer want to be a delegate or it would be a hardship to be a delegate, we are asking you to remain on the petition as a placeholder for now. The committee can make substitutions in the coming months with other qualified delegates. If you do not sign this petition, Ron Paul will forfeit a delegate now and no substitutions will be able to be made. Please remain on your petition as a delegate and we will accomodate anyone's wishes in the future to step aside as a delegate.

You will be contacted by mail or in person in the next two days. The priority is to get the delegate signatures on the petitions returned to Doug Joseph as quickly as possible. Do not delay signing the petition or forwarding it to the next delegate.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me via email or phone at the following number: ***-***-****. This is my cell phone and if you get my voicemail, please remember to leave a message. I will return your message as soon as I can.

We thank you for your committment to Ron Paul as a delegate in the state of Ohio. We look forward to working with all of you in the coming months.

Cordially,

Maryanne Petranek
Volunteer Coordinator for Ron Paul Ballot Access Ohio

How many signatures do you guys have to get?

The delegates from each congressional district will need 150 signatures. The alternate delegates from each congressional district will also need 150 signatures.

The at large delegates will need 3000 signatures across the entire state of Ohio. The at large alternates will need 3000 signatures across the state of Ohio

I also replied as willing to collect signatures (18th congressional district) and have yet to hear any reply from the campaign. They need to get it together and fast!

Seriously, we need these asap. Ron Paul may have an awesome grassroots organization but the organization is worthless without him being on the ballot. What is the hold up? I have offered my assistance but have also heard nothing regarding these petitions.

All I know is he needs to hire some more staff.

I am a delegate, and I have signed. Come on everyone, get a roll on it, if you are a delegate, or know someone who is a delegate, make sure this happens!

ok...I just registered to vote a number of months ago, and have never voted before in any election. Would I be qualified to circulate petitions?

also, how do you verify the people's signatures (that they really are Republicans), except by going by their word? Sadly, I live 5-6 miles away from a town of 19,000, so I'm not sure how much help I'd be....then again, who knows?

The folks circulating petitions have a list of registered republican voters. They will be going door to door to these addresses to obtain signatures.

Yes, if you are a registered voter now and did not vote in the Democratic primary last time, you're good to go! :)

Oki doke. Does anyone know how the petitions are going? I'd love to help out, but, as I said, I'm in the middle of nowhere...so...not sure how well it'd work out for me.

Anyway, thanks for clarifying some things.

edit: Also, what would be the methods of getting them to sign? I take it you say which candidate you're collecting signatures for?

From what I understand, the leader of your local Meetup should have copies of the petitions for your local Congressional District or should at least know what the status is regarding those petitions..... I live in Columbus and from what I understand the petitions have been obtained for CD 12 and a couple of others. I will found out more at tonight's monthly Meetup.

Petitions in process

My husband and I are alternate at-large delegates; we put our signatures on the petitions a little over a week ago. We had also volunteered to collect signatures for our congressional district: the packet with the petitions for signature collecting just arrived this morning. We were *not* given a list of Republican voters to go to; rather, we are asked to go to a DMV or Post office and solicit signatures from people waiting in line. We are instructed to ask if they are registered voters in our county, but we're not told to ask about their party status.
