Home burns while firefighters watch, again

It is not an argument. It is a reality experienced by NYC businessmen prior to the city establishing citywide services for all. Property taxes are not immoral if not excessive. It should be a community kitty to pay for services that are needed in the local community that are non-discriminatory and relate to property such a the County Recorder, fire services, basic local infrastructure upkeep. The fact is whether you perceive them as proper or not they are in place and ergo the monies should be channeled properly so that taxes paid are used for the category the tax was derived from. That is a prime first step to eliminating them, which will not and can not happen overnight under current mindsets.

I don't see anything moral about taxing property-just like it's immoral to tax income. It would be moral to tax sales and use other indirect taxes.

In this county, due to absent owners of resort cabins and many in dire poverty they do not require a fee be paid for the services to be available for all. The county has provided facilities and equipment and a couple of professionals to train the volunteers and command the fire teams responses. I assume they do fundraising as there was one at the fire station up the street last month.

My local water company charges $9 per month even if you use 0 gallons of water. We have a lot of snow birds who only live here in the winter.
