I am driving myself and three others in my car from New Jersey to Iowa City, IA on January 1st to help out the Ron Paul 2012 campaign (Anthony Reed's Eastern Iowa Subgroup.)

We are a group of Ron Paul supporters with experience canvassing and campaigning. I organized this same group for other events in the past and have coordinated this Iowa effort with the official Ron Paul campaign. We will be going door-to-door, hosting rallies, handing out Ron Paul 2012 literature, and turning out voters to the caucuses on January 3rd.

EDIT: The project is now fully funded, thanks to all who helped. Now let's win Iowa.

+Rep. I know two of the guys going, they are true closers when it comes to campaigning. They will help RP in Iowa.

just wondering, why not go to NH? all that driving / $$ for what, 1 1/2 days of work? caucus is on the 3rd...

Yes! I am not the first person to say this! Whether it's a good idea or not in a particular case, the amount of money spend on gasoline very much should be considered. And New Jersey is much closer to New Hampshire than Iowa.

New Hampshire is very important, but its no Iowa. If we don't win Iowa, New Hampshire will be a race for second place behind Romney. The campaign feels that Iowa is the center of the universe right now, and I have to agree; we need to win a state as early as possible and Iowa is very possible. Its a longer explanation on the timing, but to make a long story short, it will allow us to turnout the vote identified through phone banking, plus allow us to physically take people to the caucuses as needed and make a speech on Ron Paul's behalf at a caucus event (basically, represent for Paul.)

Besides a difference of about $150 in fuel, there is no difference financially. We are not stopping midway for an overnight, we are driving the 14 hours straight through to Iowa. Compare that with 5 hours to NH and its just a matter of a couple tanks of gas. Look at it as 4 campaigners/canvassers for what averages less than $12 an hour in overhead, for all four of us. And if we don't raise enough money, we'll stay at a campground, or all in one room, or whatever.

Whatever it takes, we shouldn't overlook a great possibility that we would have died for in 2008. Iowa is our first impression on much of America and you only get one chance to make a first impression.

I certainly wish I lived closer, but others have fought harder for freedom in the past.

It is a lot of money for what I can't imagine will be a big effect, considering that money could go towards mailing supervoters hundreds of dvds and brochures regarding Paul. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from helping you guys, I know canvassing is important and all.

One of your pitches is that you're taking a total of 4 people.

And it appears that this is just going to be the way we roll.

Did you say that you would be working for the official campaign?

Can we use a temp agency for this? Or found a temp agency, just to do this?

The amount of money we're spending on gas is too high. And you're bringing 4 people, which is a good number. So, I'm not bashing you. I don't think that your story is the worst I've seen.

Spending so much money on gasoline is not efficient.

Hire Iowans. Find them, and hire them.

If you're going there just to canvass, then sign up for the Christmas with Ron Paul program. They will cover your lodging completely.

Especially for Iowa. Person to person contact is everything. If you are familiar with how the caucus process there works, there are tons of local meetings (some 1700 state-wide) and many will not have any representation from any campaigns, so being the sole voice is very advantageous.

I agree the super-voter mailing is a good outreach program, but at my budget level that would otherwise be 480 mailings (@ $1.20 each.) I know we will reach at least that many people and we'll do it 'in person'.

And for those who do not know me, besides campaigning I am also a pro-Ron Paul journalist. This story was very popular http://news.yahoo.com/ron-paul-trillion-dollar-man-232900554.html

...and my most recent article "Ron Paul's Plan a Perfect Match for the Tea Party" is on the main page of http://www.ronpaul2012.com, as it was picked up by Jack Hunter.

Can you take money from paypal? Can you take money from foreigners?

I'm just trying to find efficiencies.
