Please help me on this. I'm so frustrated! I've spent hours on this.

I swear at the last debate -- not last night, before that -- Obama and Hillary both said they want Mandatory National Service for men and women ages 18 to 40.

But I can't find anything to that effect online. On his website, it says voluntary national service, but I'm sure he said he would like to see it. When I went back and watched that January 31st Debate in California, I couldn't find it anywhere.

Does anybody know where I can find that Obama wants Mandatory National Service?

I did find that Edwards definitely wanted it.

Lois

What, you think they will actually document their idea to draft us for their idea of the greater good?

No, but don't doubt for a second that they would love to do this if they have the power to do so.

Most not only want it but know that to fulfill the vision and need they have for the armed services it is a MUST! Non-negotiable, period.

Besides, they also know that it will keep thousands from bitching, rioting about the lack of jobs etc. when we're in the midst of the dollar collapse and a worldwide crisis.

You'll have riots on both sides... Look at the Vietnam War/Draft...

They're prepared for the riots too. It's not about what we think or want, it's about what they think and want...for the children and for the good of the world.

By now it's plain to see that approx 80% of the country are devoid of any kind of a thought process, they are prepared to deal with the rest of us.

Below are excerpts of Obama's speech with the specific proposals:

The third part of my plan will be integrating service into education, so that young Americans are called upon and prepared to be active citizens. Just as we teach math and writing, arts and athletics, we need to teach young Americans to take citizenship seriously. Study after study shows that students who serve do better in school, are more likely to go to college, and more likely to maintain that service as adults. So when I'm President, I will set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year. This means that by the time you graduate college, you'll have done 17 weeks of service.
Middle and High School
We'll reach this goal in several ways. At the middle and high school level, we'll make federal assistance conditional on school districts developing service programs, and give schools resources to offer new service opportunities. At the community level, we'll develop public-private partnerships so students can serve more outside the classroom.

Watch Hillary say she’s in favor of two years of national service (happens at about 2 minutes into the video). When asked about educational expenses, she says “. . . so that’s why I’m in favor of two years of national service, where you could earn up to $10,000 a year doing national service and go right into helping you pay for college.” No doubt the person asking the question did not realize that the national service she refers to is not optional.

His plan would:

Expand AmeriCorps from its current 75,000 positions to 250,000, with new units to deal with education, clean energy, health care and homeland security.
Expand service programs involving retired individuals and those over age 55.
Double the size of the Peace Corps from its current 7,800 volunteers to 16,000 by its 50th anniversary in 2012.
Set goals for middle-school and high-school students to serve 50 hours a year of public service, and for college students to serve 100 hours a year
.

And this is why we need Ron Paul:

H.R.393 : To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service, Sponsor: Rep Rangel, Charles B. [NY-15] (introduced 1/10/2007)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
H.R.424 : To repeal the Military Selective Service Act.
Sponsor: Rep Paul, Ron [TX-14] (introduced 1/11/2007)

Our President repealed the Act the very next day.

Well say all those studies are right, it still doesn't mean that serving makes better students who are more likely to go to college. What seems to happen is that kids who are already performing well in school and have plans to go to college are involving themselves in various sorts of community service. Colleges look for that sort of involvement when choosing applicants, so students volunteer in order to have more to add to their transcripts and applications. Community service isn't some magic tool that makes kids better students or more inclined to go to college.

I don't remember who coined the phrase "Philanthropic Tyrant", but sweetcream Jesus we have the ultimate parent/legislator dualism in this guy.
This is what the citizens of the USA have been reduced to: statistics in studies.

A well organized militia being necessary to the security of a free state; the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed...

I'd honestly rather everyone be "forced" into service, and that every man and woman between the ages of 18 and 40 be trained and required to keep guns in their homes. That was the purpose of the 2nd Amendment, to secure our rights against the tyranny of a corrupt government... It's time we hold ourselves to it. A government that fears the people, doesn't fuck with the people.

Let me say that I don't think every man and woman aged 18 to 40 should be called into active service, but that all of us should be trained, and the 2nd Amendment rights be adhered to in every household in the nation. It should be done just like the Swiss have done for so long... and we should be a non-interventionist country... We'd be far better off if we weren't preaching to the world that our "religion" is best for them...

Wait... that sounds like my neighbot... <--- spelled wrong on purpose. She's a bible thumping Jesus freak, and while I love God and have been raised Catholic my entire life, my respect for the rights of individuals to choose their own religion prevents me from becoming a preaching machine like she is. She says she believes in everyone's right to choose, but believes that Christianity is the only right decision... so she is no better than the Islamofascists that are going around the world preaching about Allah, then killing anyone who disagrees...

Of course, when I explained to her the whole concept of "Convert or Kill", she denied it post haste, and wouldn't talk to me about religion anymore, because "I'm blind to the truth".... I love it when people who deny evolution because of their faith tell me I'm blind to the truth, when their truth is based on a book written by men and my truth is based on fossil evidence, in combination with the Bible... no matter how you view the Bible, you must agree that even if they were inspired by God to write the Bible, no one is perfect, and mistakes and inaccuracies would be present. Look at any religious cult, just because they say they are guided by God doesn't make their actions "right".... The greatest thing, is that the Bible and the Theory of Evolution compliment each other perfectly... I can elaborate on that if you'd like, but I don't necessarily like to get into long winded religious discussion anymore.

Long story short, she voted for Huckabee BECAUSE he wants to change the Constitution... She has zero respect for the rights of others if their beliefs are different than hers... Sad... very sad...

I have a son in Minneapolis who fought an expensive speeding ticket. The judge let him pay it off by performing a couple of days of community service. The community service work consisted of going door to door, in the most Democrat part of Minneapolis, getting out the vote. The Obama Youth Corps could wind up being a bit political.

I wonder who chooses what the "community-identified priorities" will be. Obama's plan will make grants "to build the infrastructure of the nonprofit sector and capacity of nonprofit organizations, including their ability to... improve outcomes."

on the dlc.org website Hillary was quoted as saying her goal is universal, voluntary national service

it is impossible for anything to be both universal and voluntary

google: Hillary, mandatory national service
and
Obama mandatory national service
and
McCain mandatory national service
