'He Is Lying. People Are Dying': Calls for Texas Governor to Resign as He Blames Power Outages on Wind and Solar

"Five million Texans are without power tonight and temperatures are below freezing. People will most certainly die tonight because of it. But Gov. Abbott had time to go on Sean Hannity to blame the Green New Deal."

As millions of Texans struggled desperately to keep warm amid power outages stemming from the devastating winter storm sweeping the nation, the state's Republican governor late Tuesday blamed solar and wind for the blackouts—despite the fact that Texas relies overwhelmingly on fossil fuels—and claimed the crisis shows that the Green New Deal would be a "deadly deal" for the United States.

"Texas is blessed with multiple sources of energy, such natural gas and oil and nuclear, as well as solar and wind," Gov. Greg Abbott said in an appearance on "Hannity" Tuesday night. "Our wind and our solar got shut down, and they were collectively more than 10% of our power grid. And that thrust Texas into a situation where it was lacking power in a statewide basis."

Abbott was far from the first Republican to deploy such blatantly false talking points in response to the ongoing crisis in Texas, which has left at least 10 people dead. But the governor's decision to appear on Fox News and attack a policy that has not even been implemented as Texans resorted to burning their belongings to keep their children warm was viewed as yet another example of his failed leadership.

Citing an official with the state's Electric Reliability Council (ERCOT), The Texas Tribune reported that as of Tuesday afternoon "16 gigawatts of renewable energy generation, mostly wind generation, was offline. Nearly double that, 30 gigawatts, had been lost from thermal sources, which includes gas, coal and nuclear energy."

"Texas is a gas state," Michael Webber, an energy resources professor at the University of Texas at Austin, told the Tribune. "Gas is failing in the most spectacular fashion right now."

But that hasn't stopped Texas Republicans like Abbott and Rep. Dan Crenshaw from attempting to blame frozen wind turbines for outages that could continue for days, endangering lives and coronavirus vaccines.
In response to Abbott's "Hannity" interview, Texas voting rights advocate Charlie Bonner tweeted, "He is lying. People are dying, and he is on Fox News lying to you. We are living in fear and Greg Abbott is playing politics with our lives."

Harlingen, Texas (KVEO) – As thousands of families in the Rio Grande Valley lost power due to the winter storm, experts are comparing the damage to Hurricane Harvey.
Reports of power outages in the Rio Grande Valley started at 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, and have continued through Monday.


If this is true comparison, magnitude of such a an event may guide TX governor/legislature to temporarily suspend any restrictions on businesses/contractors like below if there is any chance that such First Amendment restrictions could be slowing down recovery efforts. All hands need to be on the deck.
Court in AK just did that but TX courts may not be able to act in timely fashion under current conditions even if they wanted to.

On the surface at least that would seem against divine prophecies; Pastor John Hagee of San Antonio Texas based world reknowned CUFI (Christians United For Israel) organization had claimed that TX was the 'most pro-Israel state' in the US.
(although I'm somewhat skeptical of 'cursed vs blessed' narratives in everyday situations unless divine messaging connection and rationale is super clear).

"He (Bush) perpetrated the expulsion (of Jews from Gaza). Now everyone is mad at him. This is his punishment for what he did to Gush Katif, and everyone else who did as he told them, their time will come, too," Yosef said.

I will place the blame on computer controls of critical systems that override or shut down based on "conservative" engineering profiles that are programmed into the operating system.

Just like a "limp home" feature in a modern computerized car, maybe it's my choice and my decision to decide if I want to fry this son of a bitch in an attempt to get out of a jam, rather than be left limp and helpless because some nerd programmed an auto shut down at 220 degrees of coolant temp.

Rumor has it he just 'attacked Free Markets' and banned electric companies from sending electric bills to their customers. There was also chatter that demand and supply driven prices need to be regulated in TX.

Apparently looking to regulate free markets due to 'climate change'. One of Obama ex staffers even claimed that 'climate change won and unbridled free market lost in Texas'. He forgot to mention that TX was run by incompetent puppets of foreign-firster lobbies.
Who knows, if TX politicians running the state had spent less time kissing up to foreign-firster lobbies and designing laws to gutt free speech of businesses /contractors and focussed all their time on putting their constituents first, planning quality might have not been as lacking.

Texas electric industry financial crisis to grow as more costs surface

(Reuters) - The Texas electricity market faces “insurmountable distress” as more gas and service bills come due, power industry officials said on Thursday at a hearing into financial fallout from the state’s February blackout.

High prices for emergency fuel and power saddled the companies that sell, transmit and generate electricity in the state with about $47 billion in storm-related costs. Those costs have led to one bankruptcy and put two retail providers out of business in the state.
Consumers facing bills for broken water pipes and food losses will see higher prices as costs get passed down through rate increases or fewer choices in providers, officials said. Future spending on weather defenses and grid linkages could add billions of dollars to the recovery. San Antonio’s city-owned utility expects about $1 billion in extra costs.

“The market is facing a financial crisis and it’s a very severe financial crisis,” Catherine Webking, executive director of an industry lobby group told state lawmakers at a hearing in Austin on Thursday. “You’ll see more and more financial distress that is insurmountable,” as bills for natural gas and financial collateral come due in coming weeks, she testified.
Vistra Corp., one of the largest utilities in Texas, forecast that buying natural gas at high prices triggered by the storm and selling power at fixed-rate prices will cut its profit by between $900 million and $1.3 billion, Vistra senior vice president Bill Quinn testified.

Hmmmm....the coldest weather I have ever been in was 0 degrees F in central Alabama and the propane in the my aunts outdoor tank worked just fine that night. My parents house only had wood heat. (Well I guess we could have plugged in a space heater.) My dad put in a way too big of a lot of fat pine. (If you aren't from the rural South you might not know what that means). Anyway the pot bellied stove was not properly vented out the wall and the house caught on fire. When the volunteer firefighters put the fire out, the water from the spray froze on their coats. During the blizzard of 1993 (18 inches of snow in Birmingham Alabama in March), we had "city" propane and that worked fine as well. Coal is fine, but I'm partial to wood. You can always go out and cut more.
