Received a letter today from: Harvard University, 108 Littauer Center, Cambridge, MA 02138.

In the letter they highlight that - Your full name, address and details about your campaign contributions are freely available to anyone with Internet access.

They then provide this link to the FEC: www.fec.gov/finance/disclosure/norindsea.shtml

This group then informs me I can use this site to see who my neighbors, friends and co-workers are supporting politically.

The letter concludes with an invitation to their website at: www.campaign-information.info

Has anyone else recieved a letter like this and what do you think is the purpose of the Harvard based group?

intimidation?

No clue.

:) I don't feel intimidated so, probably not. But what is the true purpose of the study. On the surface their hypothesis seems to be: "transparency is bad" which means they are not a true scientific research group. So I therefore assume a political purpose aka an agenda to serve the interest of whom ever is funding this "research."

I wonder if this is something that treyson is involved with. IIRC, he was offered some cushy position at Harvard after losing to Rand in the KY primary.

I actually think broadcasting whom I support in donations to strangers and others IS bad. I'll tell people if I want to, it is none of their business. And in business it can be an issue, because people feel passionately about their politics.

Think about the alternative, with donations being SECRET. Prince Ali I Have More Money Than You (that is his full name :)) donates 10 Billion dollars to the Enslave America Party in SECRET.

Extreme? Maybe ... maybe not. In fact lets face it the people at the top have trillions in our tax money. I vote for transparency. My politics are not a secret. :)

Maybe over an amount that might actually be considered to buy someone, but not at <$5000 unless you are a bundler.

I think transparency in election funding is vitally important.

The fact that "corporations are people too" is a huge problem in campaign finance because the speech of the banks is more powerful than the speech of we, the people. (And as a Texan, I'll believe corporations are people too when the state executes one in huntsville)

I think it should be required for candidates to tell who gave them how much money. And I think it should be required (it's not) for PACs to report their contributions and memberships. It's putting your mouth where your money is.

Makes no difference to me, at this point in my life, if anyone knows ... in fact, more people know from my bumper sticker.

OK after a small amount of research on the "researchers" Ricardo Perez-Truglia & Dr. Guillermo Cruces seem to be your typical planned economy/society pro-establiment types who make a living off grants and quoting each other in papers as experts in their fields.

Also found this link to another who received this letter and posted it.

Search their name see what you can find, let us know. :)

I put in my neighbor's name. Next time he wants to come "check out my car", he can kiss my ass.

Isn't it part of the public record?

I got the same letter, dated April 25th,a few days ago.6 names on it,4 rep and 2 dem.Mine was my full name, everyone else was just first name and initial.

On the out side of the envelope,in HUGE letters,it says:

Dear (my first name) :
Important information
about political
campaign contributions

This covered the entire envelope. I don't know what to make of it.I found it strange.

Could you (or blackmail someone else) post picture of that letter (or post that letter) here without all personal information?
