I am a mom with almost a 20 year track record of voting Republican. I know what real republicans stand for - smaller government, less taxes, returning power to the states.
Actually, you're a conservative, not a Republican. It is conservatives who believe in smaller government, less taxes and federalism. So do libertarians. Conservatives and libertarian Republicans united to elect Reagan and that coalition was the backbone of the Gingrich revolution in the '94 takeover of Congress.
Prior to Reagan, Republicans were big-government politicians just like Democrats. Under Bush v2.0, the party has returned to the control of the northeastern liberal elite. This is why they were finally bold enough to run an outright northeastern liberal like Ghouliani for the GOP nomination while their little neocon network, Faux News, praises him as the greatest conservative who ever lived.
Anyway, being a Republican is nothing. Being a conservative Republican or a libertarian Republican, those things still mean something.
