Guy gets yelled at by a Prius driver for having a diesel truck

That battery isn't recyclable... guess where it goes when its done? A landfill.

You sure about that? I remember reading some time ago that Toyota had a pretty aggressive recycling program for the batteries from its hybrid vehicles.

It fits too perfectly with the Neocon media narrative. I am not buying it and secondly we do not know what led up to this.

Like I said in the previous post maybe this woman was isolating herself in the parking lot and this guy drives up next to her idling. When you see a person isolating themselves in one part of the parking lot you do not drive up close to them and then idle, particularly with a diesel.

I was in a restaurant last week where some clown left his diesel on next to the restaurant door which had been open. The fumes were so strong that after awhile it almost cleared out the place and I had a headache for the rest of the day. I having nothing against diesel engines but some people can be really dicks about where they leave their truck idling.

It appears at least the newer batteries are recyclable. Did a bit of searching and the old study I read is either false or outdated.

I'm going to edit my original post to stop the misinformation.

Regardless of recyclability, its better for the environment to buy a used car, rather than creating the demand for new cars to be produced.

I'm beginning a project to build a 3-rotor Mazda Rotary, putting in excess of 300 HP at the wheels, and it would still be considered a PZEV (partial zero emissions vehicle)

My friend is working on making his '88 Camaro steam powered. It'll bring the fuel costs down to about $1 per 45 miles. Clean burning propane. :)

Not going with the fabrication route, there are still gasoline and diesel cars that get equal/better mileage than a Prius.

As there are other cars visible at close range, I doubt she was isolating herself.

there are a ton of gasoline cars in europe that've been getting 50+mpg for quite some time. you just can't get them in the US, probably because our government won't allow it because it'd put our local manufacturers out of business.

my 1993 honda civic hatch is 18 years old and i still give 40-43mpg on it. pretty sad that a shiny new prius with the latest and greatest technology can barely eek out my 18 year old gasoline powered car.

EPA and NTSB blocks them.

Ford makes a 65 mpg turbo diesel Fiesta.

Can't have it here, and not because of tariffs.

I used to own a CRX (no power brakes, power steering or anything...except the sunroof), and it got over 40mpg.

I also owned a civic SI that got great gas mileage and had great performance. Looked like a kitchen appliance, but it was great to drive.

Hell, these got damn near that, and that was over 45 years ago.

AF, I've read that all the "new" safety standards for cars are what destroyed their efficiency....I only wish we still had the option of trading freedom for safety these days. No longer an option unless you can rescue a "clunker" from the government destructo-bin.

Emission controls have a lot to do with it. So burn more fuel to reduce pollution, brilliant!

Seriously though, A Prius gets terrible mileage for what it's supposed to be IMOH. 50 MPG? There are several straight gasoline cars that are getting 45 right? Certainly all of that engineering should be able to produce better?
I used to have a 3 cylinder manual tranny geo Metro that averaged 52mpg. I got almost 60 highway.

My parents had a Metro up until I was 16. Put almost 600k miles on that roller skate. My brother has a late 80s Honda Civic hatch that gets near 50 MPG (couple of engine/airflow mods). I'm really unimpressed by 50 MPG from a brand new "hybrid" car.

The conversion will actually help running regular diesel if you live in minnesota or other subarctic and arctic areas as it will eliminate fuel gelling in the veggie tank. Also, it can help run Biodiesel which can gel at temps as high as 55*F. Remember you still have your original diesel system in place, and operational. You are just adding a vegetable oil system to it. The veggie system can run more than just veggie oil too. Tranny fluid, hydraulic fluid, brake fluid, motor oil, kerosene, lamp oil, animal fats (requires heated pumping system.) and many other long-chain hydrocarbons.

Couldn't you just add a little bit of kerosene to thin out the mixture for colder months?

My diesel Audi A3 with 170hp get's me slightly over 50mpg, I dont see how a Prius is anything special

Something just does not seem right, like why would he have the camera on before she was walking over.

First of all, she wasn't even in a parking spot, she was in the middle of the driveway. I doubt she was isolating herself. Second, she probably started yelling at them before she walked over and they started filming then.
