FYI For those who care, FBN will carry the Greek Elections live.

http://www.foxbusiness.com/index.html

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fbn-live-sunday-night-on-greek-election-results_b133151

Fox Business will be live tomorrow night covering the global market reaction and economic impact of the Greek election results.

The network will air an hour-long special at 9pmET. It will be anchored by Gerri Willis, who will be joined by Ashley Webster from Athens and Rich Edson from the G20 summit in Mexico, where he will report on reactions from world leaders.

This special is at 9 pm ET, but the action unfolds at 12 pm (Noon!) ET, when mosts (or all) polls close. First official results are to expected at 1.30 pm ET or 2 pm ET. Unofficial results are to expected at 12 pm (Noon) ET!

More on the voting system:

(There is also a liveblog available at this site, starting 11 am ET)

The question which political party will be the strongest is crucial, as the strongest party gets a 50-seat bonus "out-of-nowhere" (its supposed the stabilize the political system, but the outcome may be de-stabilizing in case the "SYRIZA", a far-left socialist party-coalition will be the strongest). As usual in most parts of continental Europe, people vote on Party Slates, not on direct candidates for the parliament, as it is the case in the U.S.

(I will probably make updates in this thread also)

Sorry? I do not understand. You mean "want to bet"? :)

Correct, I had misspelled.

Here is where the results are going to be posted. They show the May results for now:

BTW, Markus do you have any "Precinct-Level" data from Europe, any country?

By precinct-level, I mean the number of votes for each candidate at each polling place, or even better at each voting machine, if used.

Please dig up anything you can from Europe. We did find a bit of German data, but it was high level (country wide) with very few data points.

Thanks.

Evidently the French are having Parlimentary elections today as well.

PARIS (AP) -- French voters are choosing a new parliament Sunday that will determine how far Socialist President Francois Hollande can push for economic stimulus in France and around a debt-burdened, stagnant Europe.

The left is in the spotlight and expected to take the driver's seat of the 577-seat National Assembly after Sunday's second round of legislative elections.

Hollande's Socialists dominated the first round last week and pollsters predict they will win the most seats in the lower house. That would wrench it from the hands of former President Nicolas Sarkozy's conservatives, who have led it for a decade.

1705: First exit poll results via Mega TV: New Democracy - 27.5-30.5%, Syriza - 27-30%, Pasok - 10-12%, Independent Greeks - 6-7.5%, Golden Dawn - 6-7.5%, Democratic Left - 5.5-6.5%, Communists - 5-6%.

First exit polls from Greek state TV show it is neck and neck. With 75% of polling stations accounted for, New Democracy is forecast to win between 27.5 and 30.5%, and Syriza 27 to 30%. In other words, this a cliffhanger that could drag into the wee hours.

Pasok is third with between 10 and 12%, the neo-fascist Golden Dawn will definitely sit in parliament for the first time with 6.-7.5%. Democratic Left of Fotis Kouvelis is on 5.5-6.5% and the Communist Party vote has sunk even further to 5-6%

-------------
(Pasok: leftist Party, but pro-Euro and "pro-austerity" (in words, not in deeds) they will make a coalition with New Democracy if New Democracy will win the top spot)
(Independent Greeks - 6-7.5% right wing anti-austerity)

Now its really decisive if the Syriza or the New Democracy will have the top spot. If the New Democracy will have it, the crisis could be delated for a few months or longer.

@Ron Rules: Will send a PN to you

I think that this is the only exit poll. Will take some time until the smoke clears

Funny how the leftist party does not want a bailout.

Oh, they want the bailout! But there is hope that the German government will not allow a further (!) bailout with a leftist government in Greece which does NOT comply with the rules the EU imposed on Greece in terms of reforms and "austerity policy".

-----------

Just heard in German TV that there is another exit poll which sees the Syriza 0,5% in front of New Democracy

Thanks for the clarification.

Theodora Oikonomides, Greek citizen journalist, tweets from Athens: Two cops in polling station where ballot box was burnt were wounded & taken to hospital

With New Democracy and the communist both at 30% this election is over now there needs to be a new one.

"With New Democracy and the communist both at 30% this election is over now there needs to be a new one. "

Actually not, because of the greek election system. Both New Democracy and (probably) Syriza are capable to build a coalition - ND with PASOK, Syriza with DemLeft and KKE - if they become the top party, which would give them a extra 50 (!!!) Seats in Parliament of only 300 "congressmen".*

"Official" exit polls are expected in 20 minutes.

*Examples:

1) New Dem gets 30.1% that would lead to app. 80+50 Seats = 130
Syriza gets 30.0% that would lead to app. 80 +0 Seats = 80

2) Syriza gets 30.1% that would lead to app. 80+50 Seats = 130
New Dem gets 30.0% that would lead to app. 80 +0 Seats = 80

I did not know about the 50+ seats to whoever has most votes. Are they holding elections or a game show.

Just added an example in the post above.

It's supposed to "stabilize" the political system. They have a similar "extra seats rule" in Italy, but as far as I know, in no other european state.
