Grassroots TV ads for Iowa - It's on

Morning news: no, people don't pay attention, it's just on in the background
If it were cheaper than other options it might be good choice, though, if combined with other higher impact targets. I would imagine even passive background awareness can have a subtle but notable impact on people's impression. Especially on combating the notion that Paul can't possibly be considered a frunt-runner. "If I hear about him all the time, from ordinary every-day source, then he must be a candidate with a decent shot of winning, right?"

I'm wondering, why don't we just do a modern re-make of the Reagan ad. A lot of older people will remember it and it might really click with them. Get all the same shots, similar voice, and just use the different script.

That's moreless the plan. Shots can't really be the same, a lot has changed since 84.

This will be WELL worth it... these are the folks who ran the high tide ad last time, and there was a NOTICEABLE bump in actual election results. The state it ran in had our best results!

As a sidenote, I didn't realize the campaign actually had good ads last time... I wonder where it aired?

Headed these up last time as well.

we need 100% original content anyway to avoid copyright issues.

What's wrong with c-span footage? We absolutely NEED those clips where Ron predicted the bubble & collapse in early 2000s & possible terrorist attacks (9/11) during his speech on Clinton-impeachment.

Here http://www.c-span.org/About/C-SPAN-Copyright-Policy/ it says - "Video coverage of the debates originating from the chambers of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate is in the public domain and as such, may be used without restriction or attribution"

So why can't we use those clips? At least we should talk to them instead of just giving up. We NEED those clips to be seen Joes & Janes, they'll HUGE impact on how they perceive Ron when they realize that he'd predicted these things years in advance.

I think 60 seconds is the way to go, for sure... I think something like this would be attention catching:

You might have noticed:
When you go grocery shopping, you're paying twice what you used to pay
When you go to put gas in your car, you're paying twice what you used to pay
The unemployment rate? Yep... twice what it used to be
But how do we fix this?
The government needs to do half as much.
Ron Paul understands that prosperity comes from the people, not the government.
Ron Paul understands that peace, not war, is good for the economy.
Ron Paul understands that rising prices are wiping out the savings of our seniors.
Ron Paul understands that WE can spend our money smarter than federal government.
Ron Paul predicted the economic crisis, and now? He wants a chance to get America working again.
President Ron Paul will put America back on the path to greatness - and twice as fast.

But just spitballing

Pretty good IMO.

Again, we'd need his clip predicting the bubble when the narrator says "Ron Paul predicted the economic crisis....."

I think this is a great project and should be an excellent opportunity for people who have maxed out their donations to the official campaign to continue to contribute to Dr. P's candidacy. Or just anyone who thinks the ads are good. Can't wait to see what they look like.

Yup, definitely a way to keep "donating" to Ron for those who've maxed out.

Can anyone else read the sheet I linked?

2k to run 60 sec on Face the Nation.
800 to run M-F on the morning news per 60 sec AD
1000 to run during Oprah
3k to run during CBS Evening News
250 to run during Chris Mathews LOL
800 to run during David Letterman
3800 to run during 60 Minutes

and there's a boat load more.... check it out -

Good work. I don't know a great deal about prices in advertising industry but those prices seem pretty affordable considering the national exposure we'll've. Google TV ads all the way! :)

This is a very good start. Meant to address this yesterday and got side-tracked. +rep for a good effort, when I get my powers back.

Can we all start contributing to a script now? You can start by just putting up some one-liners if you want.

Deborah, those are good starts. One suggestion though... I would remove "a chance" from...

He wants a chance to get America working again.

or..

He knows what to do to get America working again.

it was a great ad, but the reason we did well in those later states is because it was only Paul and McCain on the ballot and McCain had the nom. wrapped up meaning a lot of the votes we got were just anti-McCain votes.

tv ads work great if they are done in repetition, If it is just a couple day run then it could be a missed opportunity. I think it depends on WHO sees them and IF they stick in their brains enough to go out and research a bit and get more information.

Direct mail is great and my favorite gotv effort is of course d2d. D2d KILLS conversions compared to anything else BUT those videos posted above ARE great vids for sure!

I say go for it, you guys have a proven track record of skill as well as follow through!

Numbers are in from ABC. I'm trying to save it in googledocs but I keep getting an error message. I'll post the link when it saves. Here is a sample (60 sec):

you should throw something about the tea party in there

"Ron Paul predicted the economic crisis, started the tea party and now? wants to get America working again..."

we HAVE to wrestle the label of tea party candidate from Bachmann, its our only hope.

If they already have them planned and don't want to say anything, then Ames and its surrounding areas will get a very nice education on and exposure to Ron Paul. And if voters see ads from not only his campaign, but his grassroots - ahhhhh - that would be awesome! Unplanned, spontaneous order!

I think it would be nice if the grassroots aspect were emphasized, for example in the FEC disclaimer 'paid for by grassroots not affiliated with any presidential campaign..' or whatever works. I think that is a story and earned media in itself (or should be.)

Agreed.

Good point.

Bang for the Buck, I think GMA and News at 6pm are the best runs. (Also, Natl Cable options are too costly)

Have we progressed to the point of someone starting a ChipIn for this?; and do we have any prototype videos, even if they are "Plan B" videos at this point?

Budget: Just guessing we do both GMA and News at 6 (for example) that's 350 a day for say the 10 business days leading up to Ames? Is a $3500 min budget accurate, or can it be done as 5 business days prior to Ames for $1750 (if that's all we can amass)?

If we are doing this for Ames, we need to begin funding very soon.
