[RPH EDIT - This thread is for planning and executing a determined ad campaign. - Questions related to Grassroots Ads in general should be directed to this thread http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?302631-SPLIT-Grassroots-TV-Ads-Q-amp-A Thanks]

Deb got things kicked off in this thread, we just talked and are starting to assemble a team to get the project off the ground.

The immediate focus is getting votes in the Ames Straw Poll (Aug 13th), assuming we can get an ad up and running minimum a week before the poll. Also to just plug Ron's name in a general classy way so viewers hear his name over and over. The Iowa caucus is still a ways off (Feb 6, 2012).

Ads are generally 3 varieties: 15 sec, 30 sec, 60 sec.

The 60 second ones are generally the most bang for your buck as you have a lot more time to build a proper message.

This is a good example at what we're thinking:

For mobiles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EU-IBF8nwSY

Except turn it around "more Americans are out of work than ever" etc. We need vetted statistics to weave into the script that give credibility to the overall message. First 30 seconds would give examples of the bad shape the country is in (problem), the final 30 would be about Ron Paul (solution). Ron's name is not even mentioned until after the 30 second mark...you will have no idea this is even a political ad at first. 1st half: grab people's attention, 2nd half: tell them about Ron Paul. We can hire voiceover talent that will sound very similar to the ad above.

We need to craft a very effective script to make up the voiceover. It cannot have any hard to understand talking points. Words like "keynsian", "sound money", "Fed Res" should be avoided....we're talking the TV-watching general public here folks. They unfortunately have very little understanding what these things mean. We want a feel good ad people can relate to, very similar to the Reagan one above, but perhaps a bit more substance. Think fluffy, but intelligent substantive fluffy. A 2011 update of this classic 1984 ad.

We are going to have to shoot our own footage for the ad, all in HD, to really make this thing pop visually. Youtube clips won't really cut it...we need 100% original content anyway to avoid copyright issues. I can shoot some myself, and we have other professional contacts who can contribute. Once the script is written we'll figure out what kind of visuals to run under the voiceover.

We will need an uplifting soundtrack. There are a lot of good royalty-free websites where songs can be purchased for very little. It's also possible we can have it written for us. We will have to contract out the voiceover. My PAC can pay for some of this upfront. Assuming everything works out we'll get a Chipin up soon and start raising for the actual ad buys in Iowa. Cable, broadcast, satellite, whatever will work best.

Deb is beginning to research and contact Iowa TV/cable companies this week to get pricing, etc. We can also run radio ads with the same voice talent in conjunction with the TV version. Those scripts can be altered as needed to be effective for that medium, even plug "vote in the Iowa Straw Poll August 13th in Ames" or something to that effect.

If this project is successful, we have months and month to run ads in IA and NH. Caucuses and primaries don't get underway until Feb 2012.

We have vetted, proven forum people onboard with the project. Obviously we want as much input as possible. Have at it.

can you put the iowaforronpaul.com and www.ronpaul2012.com info in there? And at the end you need the disclaimer that it wasn't paid for by any candidate or candidate's committee, but I'm sure you know that.

I'm really glad you're doing this.

I wish we could reintroduce Ron, his consistency, integrity and doing the right thing even when it wasn't the fashion, and his predictions. Or about being the only one really out to save social security and medicare for those who need it, while letting the young opt out, because he is the one who sees what a money pit policing the world is and is ready to take on the entrenched special interests to properly husband taxpayer money.... To me that is more important to Iowa voters than the cultural stuff, but a positive ad would be a big help.

Absolutely. We won't be ready for until at least early August. If they want those projects topped off they need to promo the hell out of them. Put in on the homepage of their website, have a special moneybomb just for those. Send out emails, FB, Twitter you name it.

I don't see TV ads on their Iowa list.

I think this is a great project and should be an excellent opportunity for people who have maxed out their donations to the official campaign to continue to contribute to Dr. P's candidacy. Or just anyone who thinks the ads are good. Can't wait to see what they look like.

Great idea guys...! Format suggestion below:

1. Explain/reaffirm how bad the economy is and how our "leaders" claimed that they could not see it coming.
2. Give examples of Ron Paul predicting it long in advance.
3. Explain to the viewers how Ron Paul is the only one running that really understands the crisis and how he is the one we need to fix it..

Something along those lines...

Way cool. Please end it on an up note. Like with an eagle flying over the plains, or a mountain... something along those lines. You get the gist. Kind of like Ron Paul would bring America back up. We want to pull at people's emotional strings and give them hope.

Check out Jeffery Hedquist at www.hedquist.com He is a great voice talent. He has an enormous amount of experience and talent. I highly recommend him.

Agreed, this is a great avenue for those who have maxed out their donations this cycle.

This ad seems exactly like what you are trying to accomplish..

In the ad, we need to figure out how to convey both trust and principles. We need to appeal to people's emotions, their sense of security. We need to create an ad that injects the viewer with uncertainty about the economy, jobs, gas and food prices and in the same ad introduce Ron Paul and make them feel safe again. The ad would introduce an uneasiness and then wipe it out by tying a feeling of certainty to Ron Paul.

Maybe there is a reason for that?

Yes, assuming because they don't think they're as effective as real boots on the ground work instead. Which is absolutely accurate to a point. Well done TV ads will only compliment a lacking void many think is necessary for a broader reach.

Okay I've contacted Fox, ABC, CBS, and NBC in Ames and Des Moines. Will be getting quotes in the next day or two. Couldn't find CNN in those areas but noticed that KCCI had a "partnership" with CNN on their site- whatever that means. It was also brought to my attention that we should try to avoid 15s since inventory is small, but we're going for the big banana anyway.

Should have some info soon on how much we need for this.

Chris, you are awesome! Thank you so much!

Exactly what we talked about. Now get to work and write the script! :D
