I doubt it would happen but they don't have to choose a speaker from the House or the Senate.
Nothing is going to improve if we get rid of Boehner and replace him with someone like Eric Cantor.
He won't get very far with their "top two primary" system.Jeff Landry should consider primarying one of the RINO reps in Louisiana in 2014! Just saying.
I don't know, he hangs out with some dubious characters.I nominate Big Bird!

i thought speaker was elected by a simple majority of those present to vote.
that is why they could get by with 17 if the total number of votes are lower.
I haven't read the rules but they either abstain or vote for someone else. The House keeps voting until someone has 218 votes.
The speaker needs 50% +1 of all members. The GOP control 230 odd votes. Pelosi and the Dems have 200, so there's no chance of them getting the gavel.
What if Democrats voted for Boner?
They're unlikely to do that but even if they do it means Boehner is speaker because of Democrat votes which is an untenable position. He couldn't operate as speaker and retain the confidence of his caucus if he's in power thanks to Dem votes so he would have to resign or face a revolt on every piece of legislation
