Looking for favorite sites for resources, info, suggestions, ammunition to use against statist parents....

The following link has lots of free stuff, articles, website links (Home School Legal Defense Association is linked there) , lesson plans, homeschool conventions sites, ext.. If you tell me what State you are in, I can help you find homeschool conventions, co-ops and support groups in your area, which is the best thing you can do to optimize your success.

I hope this helps.
P.S. there are articles there to help you with skeptical relatives and friends too. I was once skeptical until I became involved as a grandparent, and saw it first hand...now I am a workshop leader at homeschool conventions. So, be patient with them.

One more thought: Here is something that I heard a home school father say: He was asked if he was concerned about the socialization his child would miss out on by not attending public school. He jokingly answered, "Oh yes. I am very concerned about that. So each day I take him into the bathroom, rough him up, and steal his lunch money. :-)"

so far, the best replies that have stopped skeptics are the following:

1. Stanford has a specific page JUST FOR homeschool admissions, lol. yeah.... take up your skepticism w/ Stanford and tell THEM about how wrong they are letting homeschoolers in.....

pay close attention to the last paragraph....
here in the DFW area we have an amazing Homeschool College Night where colleges show up actively courting homeschoolers-- "good" colleges too, not just small private Christian ones, ;)

2. John Taylor Gatto. A NY State Teacher of the Year and 3x NYC Teacher of the Year. That means *other teachers* said the guy was a Great Teacher and Knows His Stuff. He isn't just some two-bit newbie that tried teaching for a few years and decided to support homeschooling, but a GREAT teacher that is rabid *against* the public educational system. So i generally ask teachers [or those quoting teachers] if they are qualified to be a Teacher of the Year at the state level, or at the city level repeatedly. If they aren't, I tell them I'm more comfortable following a more credible teacher's advice. ;) And even if they are, i simply whip out the "yeah, but another expert + Stanford University disagrees with you."

3. My favorite was being on a Central NY show [HourCNY] as part of a parent panel. I got the guy wearing the "Support Public Schools" button to admit on air that he was basically speaking from ignorance. feather. cap. oh yeah.

4. Best Friends Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children. not a homeschool book, but check it out at the library and turn to page 88. if the edition is different, read Chapter 5, Law 4, about 2-3 pages in. There's a key paragraph I use as a reference that you'll find pretty easily.

My favorite general resource for homeschooling is the Well Trained Mind forums. It has a very diverse community, but if you ask for conservative resources you should be able to find some great ones. About as close to a Hive Mind as you'll get.

good luck!

Rushdoony's defense of homeschooling and critique of state-education is seminal. Go to the original source if you want the best arguments!

The best book I've ever read on the defense of homeschooling and the destruction of the entire idea of state-education:
