I'm not convinced at all that these Tea Party candidates will remotely impede American aggression: not a single successful one of those candidates questioned, let alone opposed, the attack on Iraq, advocated for withdrawal from Afghanistan, or opposed any of the Bush/Obama executive power abuses, and more important, much of the Tea Party movement is driven by the type of crazed anti-Muslim bigotry which drives those policies.

Except that Rand Paul did oppose the Iraq War and Patriot Act.

Is this guy really disingenuous or just dumb?

Neither. Glenn, like most people, only know the Rand that they saw on the campaign trail. Most people have no idea what Rand was like before 2009.

You have to admit, Rand sounded pretty close to an establishment Republican during the campaign, because he had too. They will all come around in due time, if Rand sticks to the plan.

Rand on the campaign trail said he was against the Patriot Act and had been against Iraq from the beginning.

He just, kinda, said it softly.

I doubt he has been following it too closely. No need to bother Glenn about it; let him see what Rand does as senator.

You are clouded by your fanboyism and can't see that this man is ignorant. People shouldn't be making comments on things they don't know much about.

By the way, keep reading:

But, interestingly, Senator-elect Rand Paul this weekend told ABC News that controlling the deficit requires real cuts to America's military spending -- a view which only a minority of Democrats are willing to express -- and also told Sam Husseini that we've been going to war too lightly and without the declarations of war and Congressional involvement which the Constitution requires.

It doesn't matter. What if Glenn Beck said none of the tea party candidates were against the bailouts? Would you think less of his credibility?

No. Glen Beck has credibility?

I mean, sometimes he says the right stuff. Sometimes he doesn't. Unpredictability is not credibility.

what?

you can say there is no need to smear Rand. but no need to bother Glenn when he is making false statements about Rand? that makes no sense.

No he did not have to, he chose to. Needless to say all those military families living around Ft. Campbell and Ft. Knox are wondering is this the Rand Paul they voted for since "everything, including military spending is on the table".

This is what the average person does not like about politics, people who "stick to plan" by running as something they are not. How does he explain himself when he tries to get re-elected?

He always said he would have voted against Iraq. He always said we needed cuts to military spending as well as other spending. He always said it is time to discuss whether we have been too long in Afghanistan and whether we need to be in every war all the time.

SOME people just took isolated statements, and ignored the rest.

He was asked specifically about cutting spending at Ft. Campbell and Ft. Knox, and he said he was not in favor of such cuts as Ft. Campbell and Ft. Knox graded in the top 20 bases in the country. I do not know the metric used to grade...but if military families were paying attention, they're not wondering whether this is the Rand Paul they voted for. He said several times during the campaign that everything, including military spending, was on the table for budget cuts. He also said you were not serious about balancing the budget if you'd take anything off the table.
