Glenn Beck: Rand Paul vs. Ted Cruz: Who is the better 2016 candidate?

From another thread, but bears repeating. Spinsters like Beck will tell people what they want to her, but don't go thinking the corporate media are our allies:

Your post about Beck was just... awful. I mean.. what a bunch of elitist garbage. It's libertarians like you who seriously turn people off of the liberty movement. Can people not change? I can understand not trusting Beck but to not even give him (or Hannity or anyone else) the time of day simply because they have a microphone and weren't all in on libertarianism from day 1 is just ridiculous.

I started listening to Beck on a whim shortly after the 2010 mid terms. Prior to that I was not politically aligned at all. In 2008 I actually voted for Barack Obama and I freely admit I was a "low information" voter as Rush puts it. I started listening to him because I was honestly sick and tired of everywhere I turned (namely the Daily Show and liberal forums, etc) blaming everything on Bush. I didn't like Bush.. infact, he was a big reason why I decided to vote Democrat in 2008.. but the whining was INCESSANT. So I turned him on almost as a joke.. thinking I'd be just as turned off him and conservative viewpoints as I was by Democrats. I forget what he was talking about but right away he was slamming establishment republicans. I was hooked immediately because here was a voice who actually seemed to understand the problem.

Now.. maybe you're right and that he's capitalizing on a growing trend in the Country but if so, he's been beating the same drum for at least 4 years now since I've listened to him.
And yes, he's pro-Israel.. but he's not pto-intervention in Israel. He repeatedly expresses that they can take care of themselves but that that isn't going to stop HIM from supporting them himself.. That's a pretty big difference that I don't ever see stated here (probably because most of his doubters probably haven't ever listened to him).

Hell, just 3 days ago Beck reiterated that he's DONE with American intervention.. that he wants all the troops to be brought back now.. that he doesn't even understand why they are there. He also admitted that he didn't always think that way.. is he allowed to move towards true libertarianism? Because I sure as hell didn't always have the same opinions on the Country, Constitution and freedom that I do now.. I couldn't fucking care less 5 years ago.

I realize I am part of the reason the Country is in the mess it's in now... but at least I'm (along with I think millions of others) are seeing the errors of my ways.. I don't see why guys like Beck or Hannity can't be afforded the same leeway now that they are coming around.

That first part sounds like me when I was a gigantic Beck fan back in the day. I still even own some of the guy's books. Great reads.

But I'm not buying it until he proves to me he's sincere. He sells out in election season, I wouldn't put it past him again.

Here's the thing, I guess... he's a talk radio host. He's not a politician, so I don't hold him by the same standards that I hold politicians. He's a regular guy, who happens to say a lot of the right stuff. I hope people will listen to those good things.

He also says some bad things, and he thinks the GOP is the lesser of two evils which is almost always wrong. But, to me, and I could be wrong, but he seems to say enough of the right stuff that he's not outright LYING WRT the issues on which he is in error. I think he's sincere. I don't love the guy. I don't totally trust him. Its possible that he's just saying this stuff to make people like me think he's sincere. But I don't feel like it would be worthwhile to TPTB for someone like Glenn to do that if he were a shill. They would have too much to risk... too many people would wake up.

I agree with you on not totally trusting him, but I do like him better than Limbaugh, Hannity, or Levin, and pretty substantially at that.

He actually doesn't believe that. Not anymore, anyway. That's for damn sure. I can't remember the last time he said a good thing about the GOP.. not even a "lesser of two evils" remarks. Hell he went on a tirade today about Huckabee and how he'd turn this country into a religious progressive nightmare... and the dude is as religious a guy as I have ever seen.

If he really doesn't believe the establishment GOP is less even than the Democrats, that's a change from 2012. Which is very possible. As I said, I don't follow the guy much.

Remember the days leading up to the Iowa caucuses in 2012 how Beck dealt with Ron Paul supporters.

Anything good he had ever said about Ron Paul before was gone. Any agreements Ron Paul had with what Beck claimed to believe were irrelevant.

He went on and on about how Ron Paul was on some committee where some of the other people on it had connections with George Soros.

When the time comes that he needs to come up with some excuse for dumping Rand, he'll find what he needs. And it will erase any redeeming qualities he ever thought Rand had before, no matter how ridiculous it is.

And if that happens, I'll be totally and completely done with him.

I was also critical of Ron Paul in 2011 and thought his supporters were bat shit crazy.. had nothing to do with Beck either (honestly I didnt even know there was history there).

in 3 years since then I would consider myself a full fledged libertarian now whereas back then I was a "anyone but Obama!" guy. Never again. I think that's where Beck was. From giving him a fair shot, he seems pretty genuine in his evolution from establishment GOP guy to libertarian leaning. I understand that's probably a dumb thing to say on a forum that probably hates his guts but it's how I feel. But if he really does 'stab' Rand in the back leading up to 2016 as some here predict.. yeah, I'll be all set with him.

You never know how much the truth has set in. Today or yesterday Beck and the other guy were making fun of Stu, saying that he would like to invade every nation in the world, that he was the stereotypical neo-conservative. It seems like the stock of Beck's neo-conservative compadre has fallen. Maybe Beck won't be taking his word on everything anymore. Stu was the one feeding Beck negative info on Ron and Medina. Glenn may have a better perspective today.

Or maybe that is just wishful thinking. If Beck turns on Rand, we will know the truth.
