Here's the transcript. It's not that bad actually. And I'm not a Beck fan. Beck and his buddy are basically playing "good neocop bad neocop".
@ 1:30
Beck: I agree with him. Pat I see you shaking your head. I'm not for closing down Guantanamo...
Pat: Are you for eliminating the Patriot Act in its entirety?
Beck: Umm...you can talk me into it.
Pat: I'm sensing that lately.
Beck: You can talk me into it.
Pat: (sounding worried) I don't think that's a good idea.
Beck: Here's were I stand on libertarian things. Our founders were libertarians. They weren't "suicidal" libertarians.
Pat: Yes they were.
Beck: They weren't "suicidal" libertarians.
Pat: I don't think our founders would have legalized drugs. If drugs had been an issue in the 1790s when they wrote the constitution...
Beck: I think Jefferson would...
Pat: I don't think they would have gotten on board with legalizing drugs..
Beck: Most of them wouldn't have, but Jefferson would.
Pat: Some of them would have. Alexander Hamilton would have.
Beck: What he's saying is...let the states decide.
Pat: Yes! I'm willing to do that.
Beck: And when it comes to legalizing drugs. If the progressives believe that man is not flawed...well that's fine. That's absolutely great. Man can be perfected. That's what they think. We can make progress and man can be perfected. I don't believe that. What I believe is that people are going to make mistakes, and unless they are allowed to collapse they are not going to get better. I don't believe people can be perfected, but I do believe that people can learn from their mistakes. But the progressives don't want you to learn from your mistakes because they don't want you to make mistakes. You're kid will never be fat because they will keep the soda away from him. You'll never fail because they'll keep failure away from your door. But that's not their role. Here's what I want. I want the states to decide. I want the people to decide. If you want to legalize drugs, that's fine. But it will only happen if you're not telling me that I have to help the stupid heroin addict that's dying out on the sidewalk. No no no. If you want to legalize them, then you'd better be prepared to walk over every heroin addict lying in the street.
Pat: And their not.
Beck: And their not. You can't have it both ways.
Pat: But they will. I mean if this ever happens they will.
Beck: No. They're not going to. They're not going to be able to make it. You cannot retract 110 years now of progressive movement overnight. There's no restraint. People don't even understand the constitution anymore. You can't pull out from all over the world overnight. The next president just can't come out and say "By the way, we're going to close the FBI, the IRS, the department of education, the state department and also we're pulling all of our troops home". You can't do it. But what you can do is to start to move in that direction. But you can say "Germany, why are we protecting yourself? You don't need us anymore"
Pat: Absolutely! I agree with you on that. But Sarah Palin's problem is, and you've mentioned this before, is that she's entangled herself with too many people who's opinion she doesn't agree with. McCain. Rand Paul..
Beck: I get it. But somebody told me recently that McCain get's it.
Pat: Oh please! No way does he get it.
Beck: I don't think so.
Pat: Last year for a short time it seemed like he got it. But John McCain is John McCain.
Beck: Let me ask you this. What do you think of the idea...I disagree with this...but what do you think of the idea that you can't do this without some sort of coalition? You've got to have a system. You won't be able to turn this thing around and win in 2012 without making some friends and allies with people you strongly disagree with.
Pat: That's how we got here in the first place. That's exactly why we're here.
Beck: I agree with you....I just don't think...I can make friends Rand Paul because the fundamentals are there....The fundamentals of understanding of the constitution. I'd rather make friends with Rand Paul than John McCain. If I had to choose who I'd campaign for..from what I know about Rand Paul and John McCain I would choose Rand. Now I would not say the same for his father. I just think Ron is out there on a few things.
Pat: Well they're cut from the same cloth. They're on the same page.
Beck: I don't know.
Pat: We had him on the show though. But we didn't get into these more libertarian things.
Beck: Yeah we did. We didn't talk about defense, but we did talk about healthcare. He sure understood healthcare.
Pat: Yeah he did.
Beck: Look. You fix the economy, all these other problems go away. If you start to understand who we are as a people...that you stand up an you fend for yourself...if you teach that in the business community and in real life, the rest of it comes. The progressive movement dismantled that and said "we'll protection you...we'll coddle you". No. Period. When people understand that, just in business..that you're going to fail...you're making a huge leap in the right direction. Then people are going to say what's the next step? You can't a education system that says there is no merit. Just keep moving you along. It won't work. That's what we tried to create and that's what Obama is trying to move along. That's the wrong direction.
