There are a lot of candidates who will be running for the GOP nomination who will be a lot less liberty oriented than Cruz. I would certainly prefer Rand over Cruz, but a President Cruz would certainly be the best President of my lifetime. I was only 3 when Reagan left office, and I don't really remember his Presidency. But I think that Cruz would be a lot better than Reagan.

I was an adult throughout the Reagan administration. I voted for him twice. His appeal to conservatives is much more symbolic than rooted in substance. He spoke a great game, but wasn't able to deliver. He lowered taxes and restored "confidence" which inspired a lot of people to go out and wave flags on the street corner; something they apparently couldn't bring themselves to do when Carter, Ford, and Nixon were president. Plus, he's responsible for putting Bush 41 in a position of power...that alone diminishes his stature.
