I just stumbled across this article on the Guardian and was blown away. This is major. I mean, I'm not surprised so much at his attitude as I am at the openness of it.

But even more than that, I can't believe no one here in the US even thought this was worthy of mention in a news story. I can't find a single other source covering it besides the Guardian!

Is the story accurate? If so, why is no one reporting it?

Newt Gingrich: I would ignore supreme court as president

Excerpt:
Newt Gingrich has pledged that on his first day as president he will set up a constitutional showdown by ordering the military to defy a supreme court ruling extending some legal rights to foreign terrorism suspects and captured enemy combatants in US custody.

Much more at the link.

EDIT: To be clear, I would not be at all surprised to hear that Romney, Gingrich or Santorum had actually done such a thing as president. What amazes me is the brazenness of the boasting and the fact that no one cares or even finds it newsworthy.

Errr... so Newt gives the order to defy the SCOTUS... and if the military follows that order we live in a banana republic...

Newt isn't running for president. He's running for dictator.

It's not being reported because nobody really expects Newt to ever be President.

Newt, "I will be king, I will be the brilliant, annointed one, who will determine who lives and dies; and who sleeps in my kingdom bed."

i think our government is the terrorists.. trying to scare the american citizens all the time. OH NO! boogiemen are coming! quick! give us all your guns, rights, and freedom in exchange of security that doesnt work!

You're correct... The only dangerous thing is that SC going to propel someone.. And man, I'm from there and they are so stupid and brainwashed.. they don't even realize they continue to re-elect a gay Senator ... Lindsey Graham... They're like in another world... Can't remember, but think they are in the bottom ten for education and intelligence in the US... They constantly gay bash... and their Senator is gay... wth wrong with them?

By the way, I am Jewish; and growing up in South Carolina; they hate jews more then they hate gays... The prejudice was awful. So since when did they become so pro Israel .. Do they even know peeps that live in Israel are probably Jewish? Half my family lives in Israel, and they are Jewish South Carolina lol.

exactly right !! They continue to rape you and your families... like vitamins are bad, you must buy prescription drugs instead and outlaw vitamins. China stealing all our trade secrets and movies !! We must rape every American's right to be on the internet, because of that one terrorist who pirates a movie tonight. And if you refuse to vote for Obama or Mittens; well we might just lock you up as a terrorist; because only a terrorist would refuse to vote for one of those great Americans. Scarey as hell.

President Gingrich would go power mad. I am legitimately terrified of President Gingrich or Santorum. President Romney and President Obama make me say "God, please no!", but they seem to be more "with it" than Santorum or Gingrich.

Really? Did you catch Romney's immediate answer to the question about NDAA at the last debate? He said clearly he would have signed it, he thinks it's good. Yes, it's power that could be abused, but he trusts Obama and when he's president you'll just have to trust him.

Well, I still think Romney would be horrible and I recoiled with his speech, but on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the Mad King from the King of Thrones), Romney's at a solid 9.5 whereas Gingrich is an 11. I can seriously see Gingrich going power mad.

What a shock coming from someone whose favorite Presidents are FDR and Teddy Roosevelt.
