Gary Johnson Gary Johnson just announced that he is running for President

As far as Johnson goes I'd never consider voting for Johnson because I'm not convinced he's pro-life. I don't vote for pro-choice people.

Ah. You're right, he is pro-choice. And if Ron Paul pushes through states' rights on the issue, and Johnson runs to replace him when he retires, and announces he's against changing what was done? Will that be good enough, or would he have to repent in his heart (and how would you know he really did)?

Please let's keep an open mind. I know, easy for a More Light-er to say, but can we try?

I'm sorry, but being pro-life is a fundamental part of what I believe. I can't vote for someone who disagrees with me fundamentally on the issue. It's too important to be left up for compromise. Even though I don't think the Feds should have prosecutorial power over abortion, I can't with good conscience vote for someone with such a large difference on a fundamental issue.

Time for a donation to Gary Johnson. As he is the only voice that MOST represents my beliefs in the current field of candidates. Until that changes. He has my support.

I support your right to feel that way. I stopped caring about the abortion on the Federal level since it's a state's issue.

So far only two people have thrown their hat in the ring Trump and Johnson. I think it was a smart move for Johnson to throw his hat in. For the casual voter he is getting all the anti-Trump looks right now. If he had thrown his hat after everyone has join he would of been a blip on the radar. I'll support him until Ron jumps in.

Paul>Johnson>Trump

But if his policy agrees with your principles and he can be trusted, it seems to me that he would be a million times better than ten thousand Republican pathological liars who poured their passion for the subject out all over the place and then did nothing but nothing about it.

At this point, it looks like beggars being choosy to me. Honestly. He wouldn't be the first politician to bow to the majority in preference to his own desires. He'd just be the first one with that much class since well before Nixon came to prominence.

I honestly believe he can't be trusted. When I say he is slippery, that is what I mean. I don't fundamentally trust him, and that pretty much ends that.

And why is that sailingaway? A cursory look at his record shows that he has been a proponent of all he expresses. Am I missing something? Or is that just your "gut" feeling?

Do you guys remember Huckabee and McCain in 2008? Remember how they teamed up against Romney and Romney lost, McCain won?

Who else should Ron Paul team up with besides Gary Johnson?

How much did Huckabee hurt McCain by running on a similar liberal platform, only to drop out and endorse him?

How about we try this tactic. Support any and every candidate that most represents libertarian/conservative principals. Have them give good debates regarding these principals against the neo-cons. Then whomever is losing towards the other bows out and is picked up as the vice-presidential running mate of the forerunner? Name recognition and media presence from two pro-libertarian/conservatives as opposed to a known and some frikken unknown governor or media figure. Sounds like win to me.

Gary's announcement is significant in one way: He is the first officially announced candidate. The political pundits have been grumpy, trying to cover a race that won't "officially" begin because everyone is hanging back.

We'll probably see the other "official" announcements roll in over the next few weeks and shortly before the May 5 debate.

I don't get how this has gotten to 24 pages.

Ok, GJ has announced. So what? 98% of us here support Ron over him, and the other 2% are just dillusional in thinking GJ has any shot at winning.

Let's just move on and wait for Ron to announce, then we can have an endless thread.

Gary Johnson is a huge open borders guy.

My only point was that to believe Johnson can be more successful than Ron Paul, you must believe that Paul would have been more successful had he been pro-choice, pro-open borders, and a relatively recent pot smoker.

Forget the abortion and marijuana stuff, that's a bigger weight tied around Gary Johnson than Romneycare is for Mitt Romney. No way Republicans are going to go for someone complacent in the illegal alien invasion.

easier than it is now?

It's not easy now to get a work visa. True Libertarians don't get bogged down in this "Kick the Mexicans" out. Fact is, we need more people over here and if we have people here we will create demand.

It's sad seeing how many morons are on this board who preach Liberty but then bash Johnson. Please don't show yourselves when the campaigns start you're embarrassing and a huge turnoff to any potential Liberty voters.
